hi there.

just wondering for families out there when travelling to disney and arriving at the airport..........how do you guys transport lots of luggage to their onsite
resort ??(ie... with 8-10 pieces of luggage ??) IF they do not use
magical express.

I am thinking even if you rent an ordinary van.. it would not fit that
many luggage ? I am by far not a seasoned traveller , so just helping out
someone that needs to get all that luggage to their onsite resort..

what is the best way, most budgetwise way ?
thanks !

I guess it all depends on how much money you want to spend. If you have 8-10 pieces of luggage, you have probably 5 people traveling. So, you will have to rent a car big enough to hold all those people as well as your luggage. Even a towncar isn't going to be able to hold you all...you would have to book a van.
I'm curious...why not use DME? Can't beat the price and you don't have to worry about that luggage.
I will tell you...last month we were gone for a two week vacation...at WDW, then a Disney cruise, then off to Tampa. We usually pack pretty lightly but needed a bunch of different clothes this time...thanks to the cruise. For the three of us, we had 6 pieces of checked luggage as well as several carryon bags. It was not fun lugging that stuff around the airport. We had to take DME back to the airport to pick up our rental car to get to port...what a hassle it was with all that stuff. Never again!!!

you are quite right .. they are 5 people in the travel party........
but I guess they are still pondering dolphin/swan and contemporary
and coronado springs....

and i believe you cannot use ME if you are staying at the dolphin/swan,
or am I wrong ?

Wow, your friends are bringing everything they own to WDW! 5 people and 8-10 pieces of luggage. We go for up to 2 weeks and take 1 bag each. If they stay at a Disney resort, they can use ME and have them handle the bags as you are allowed 2 bags each. 5 people = 10 bags. Still not fun to get to the home aiport and such hauling those bags.

Two thoughts. Either lighten the load of packing so they can manage it OR ship a few boxes of UPS/Fed Ex to the resort and have them waiting when they get there. The cost of renting a large van is going to be much more than cost to ship. I can ship 65 pounds Fed Ex for $30.

Hey Bavaria, how many bags do you take on a trip to WDW? :-)

Duds

Please, don't get her going on bags again!!!! Then we're going to have to hear about her skirt :lmao: Just kidding buddy!!

Anyway, to the OP, no you can't use DME at the S/D. But, you are then going to not only have to pay a pretty hefty fee to transport 5 of you, you will have to lug those bags around. Not fun, as I said before. Remember, if you have to, you can do a load of laundry..I know, not fun, but it does make packing a bit easier. I would go with a Disney owned resort and use DME. I love the Dolphin but I love the Disneyfied resorts better. And you can't beat DME for ease of travel to the resort.
If you are truly concerned, then ship a box or two down as duds suggested. I've had to ship stuff home but haven't sent anything down yet!!! But a lot of people do.

They should check to see if the cost of dolphin/swan and renting a van (to and from the airport), would actually be the same as a disney resort....
