We are going to be at WDW (yea!) on August 27. How do we get from MCO to the swan. Is there a preferred transport? We are also going on a Disney cruise on sept 1st, so we will need transport to the ship from the swan. Any ideas?

Rent a car, hire a limo or take a cab. There are many limo service, lots of cabs, I iam sure that you will get a lot of suggestions. :) Not sure about the cruise part, aren't you eligable for the Disney bus for this?

Between MCO and the Swan/Dolphin you can use Mears' shuttle which works somewhat like Magical Express but without luggage delivery direct to your room. The cost is about $20. per person one way with some discounts for example for round trips.

Mears has counters on both sides of the airport, one almost next to the Magical Express counter.

My recommendation would change based on how many people are in your party. More than 3? I would book a car service from MCO to the Swan, use them again to get to port and then from port back to Orlando.
Just two of you? I would take the Mears shuttle to the Swan...you can just head to their counter at MCO, level 1 ground transportation. It's $19 pp one way. Then, once at the Swan, I would have a car service get me to port and back to Orlando.
Having a car isn't a bad idea, but you have to pay for parking at the Swan. So, I would book a car for the drive to port..pick it up that morning you depart. Whether or not you just pay to park the car at port, or return it and then re-rent when you get off the ship is up to you. I prefer to just pay to park and have the car right there when I get off the ship. Run the costs both ways.
If you decide to rent a car at the Swan, you can book Alamo or National and pick up at the Dolphin. Other companies are based off-site in the DTD area resorts.

I would consider a car service......we use MH Transportation all the time, nice having a driver waiting for you in baggage claim. Very dependable, since we ran into issues with Mears. We are a family of 6 and never rent a car, since once at Disney we use Disney Transportation everywhere. But like 1 post said, if it's just the 2 of you, Mears may work fine. Good luck and enjoy your trip.
