I am attending a conference in July and it is at the coronado but i'm staying at AKV. What is the best way to get there?

Resort to Resort using Disney transportation is always a problem. I'd consider renting a car for your stay...they are usually pretty reasonable in Orlando. If they are really seasonally expensive, then I'd opt for a taxi, that shouldn't be too pricey, the resorts are pretty close to each other.

Without renting a car, your options are to take a bus to any Theme Park, Water Park or DD and then transfer to another bus to your conference (or back to AKV). Disney suggests allowing 90 minutes for Resort-Resort transportation. In most situations it will not take that long, but if you just a missed the bus as you get to the stop, it could happen.

From AKV, I'd take a bus to AK and then grab the bus to CSR - since AK is closet to both resorts. However, if you need a bus to either spot after AK closes, then Epcot, DHS or DD would be the better choice (other than having a rental as Chuck already suggested).

Good luck! :)

For a conference I'd either change to CSR, rent a car or take a taxi. I would not spend an hour or more in the AM getting to the resort.

I'm going to agree with the PPs. Friends & I did a trip recently where we didn't have a car (for most of the time). We decided never again. We stayed at SSR (only place available for all our nights) and then went to Boma & Sanaa for several breakasts and lunches.

Our first inclination was to walk to DTD and catch an AKL bus. Doesn't work unless you're there after 9:00. Next we tried catching a bus to a park and then catching a bus to AKL. Took an hour.

I would talk to your employer about how you are saving them money for a room that the least they can do is pay for a small rental car.

The OP didn't specify if this was being covered by a company or on their own dime. Generally the only way for a points reservation to be covered by a company would be if they were one of the few companies that would pay per diem for the lodging portion. IF this is a trip that is potentially covered by a company, regardless of who's paying for lodging, I'd be surprised if they wouldn't cover a taxi or rental also, subject to their total daily per diem limitations if they have any.

Dean, I suggested this because I did it. I had to go to Orlando for a conference. I used my points and "paid" for the room and my company paid for my car as a trade off.

As I stated, I think most companies that would pay for the room would also pay for the car or taxi. I know we have a budget and if we go over, it's at our own expense, but I've never gone over for 1 conference in a year (yearly stipend). I have paid for the room and used the leftover dollars to pay for other items (books, journals, computer programs) or to have enough for 2 conferences in a year. Of course you can't deduct the value of the room as a business expense if using points. Occasionally you'll come across a company that will pay per diem for both the room and meals and when this happens, you have the best of both worlds for timeshare usage. I asked our CFO and 3 or 4 CFO's of other local large businesses this exact question (would they allow it) and all said NO. That's the answer I expected but not the one I had hoped for as it would really have been to my benefit had they allowed it and to be honest, would likely have been a win-win situation.
