Hi everyone,

We recently read an informative thread regarding renting a car for one day and returning it to the Dolphin.

This got us thinking... would it be easier to drive back and forth to MK as opposed to taking the bus? We had a less than great experience returning from the MK back to the BC using the bus system. We had to wait over half an hour for the bus and then the bus ride itself was very long. It was difficult to keep a bunch of kids occupied just hanging out at the bus stop for so long. Plus, getting a stroller and all sorts of baby paraphernalia onto a crowded bus is a pain. It was sort of the low point of our trip. However, I do not know what hassles are involved in driving to the parks. Do you have to pay to use the parking lot?

Also, for those who have rented from the on-site National, at what time do you need to return the car to the Dolphin (or MK)?

The reason I hate driving to MK is that you have to park at TTC and then take the ferry or the monorail. You do not have to pay to park if you are staying at a disney hotel. If you take the bus they drop you off right in front of MK. It is much faster. :D

Busses are usually OK. Driving to MK can even be worse. You have to park outside the TTC, then take tram to TTC, then monorail or boat to MK and return same way. That return trip if after the closing fireworks and thus when large crowds are leaving can sometimes take 1 1/2 hours because of waiting for monorail and then waiting for tram to car. Note driving to AK or Downtown Disney is much quiker both ways than taking bus to either. Parking is free at the parks if you are staying on site. Don't know about the rental car issue.

I submitted this thread previously:

Buses on the BW/SD/BY Route
Has anybody ridden the buses between the parks and the BW/SD/BY over the summer?

I stayed at BW in June and had a terrible experience with the buses. To list a couple of incidents; at one point we waited about an hour for a bus to DTD, on return runs BW patrons had to wait for the 5th stop till they reached BW (BCV's would then be the 4th stop). I wil limit my comments as to the bus delays at the parks. Generally, the wait times, to and from parks, seemed to be at the outer limits (20-30 min) if not in excess.

I called guest services after my stay and spoke with a CM who seemed concerned.

I was just wondering if they improved their service on that route, since I am in the process of buying at BCV

I too am concerned. Let's hope they listen to us.:(

Thanks everyone. The buses sound like the lesser evil. Still, the wait should never be that long.

How active are your kids - in the worst case - you could take the monrail back to EPcot and walk through - yes this is a long walk.

I make the mistake once of thinking a car would be faster - that morning we waited 45 minutes for the bus to the MK - so that evening I took my car - bad mistake - it was around 2 hours just to get to the car. I should have know better - live and learn.

I think the Swan and Dolphin (not sure of the initials), YC, BW and BC route should be broken up. Possibly Swan and Dolphin (still don't know the initials) should be on a separate bus route.

When we stay at OKW or BWV, we usually take the car to MK if we are going in the morning and returning before closing (usually late afternoon). I timed it from our front door at OKW to the MK front gate in May around 10:00 and it was 25 minutes (car to MK lot, tram, monorail). Now if we go on a Saturday night or MVMCP, we usually take the bus thinking it's easier to get to the bus when it's crowded. But it's a pain, I remember after MVMCP last year we left MK around 11:00-11:15 and didn't get back to BWV until almost midnight. It stopped at Swan, Dolphin, Yacht, Beach....it we weren't so tired we would have got off at the first stop and walked.

Does anyone know where the National drop-off is in the MK? Maybe if we are dropping our car off that morning we can drive right in as opposed to all of the other craziness. Has anyone tried this?

The National Dropoff is not at MK. It's at the car care center on World Drive next to the Exxon, down the road from the Polynesian. They have a shuttle, they may be able to shuttle you over to the TTC or one of the monorail hotels.
