Transportation to HDD is like programming a VCR

On WDWIG this week in the "Tip of the Week" column they note that one sixth of attendees arrive late for the Hoop Dee Doo MR for every show. I don't know how many seats are filled at the shows, but if one conservatively guesses 200, then 36,500 people arrive late per year (and 100 per night)!

The column recommends leaving plenty of time to get there, but while it does seem reasonable to assume that the late arrivals are mostly due to folks' underestimating travel time, no underestimation that widespread can really be blamed on the guests. (Reminds me of users blaming themselves for being unable to program VCR's back in the day, when really the machines had major usability problems.)

My suggestion would be to set up dedicated transportation to the show from several bus stops throughout the World, and clearly to publicize and encourage use of this transportation. I remember being very anxious about how I was going to get there, and there weren't a lot of alternatives. I did a ton of research on it beforehand; not all guests can be expected to plan with equal, er, obsessiveness. Just a suggestion, and probably one that wouldn't be implemented because of expense.

I might think that a good portion of those folks are late because they drive, and then don't realize they have to take a Fort Wilderness Internal bus to get to the HDD. At least, that's typically been my experience when driving in the Fort.

Interesting observation, Tyler. Sounds as if much of the problem could be alleviated by better communication w/guests as to how the existing options work, as well as by adding options.
