My husband and I are planning a trip to WDW at the end of February. We had planned on going to Universal for 1 day anyway (using Mears to transfer from our Disney hotel), but I've heard such great things about the Universal resorts, and the perk of front of the line is so inviting, that we're thinking of spending our very first night at a Universal hotel.

So, what would be the most cost efficient way of getting from the airport to Universal, then the next day we'd need to get to Wilderness Lodge?

I priced a car quickly and for one night and dropping the car off on Disney property it would cost about $95. It seems like that is about how much taking a taxi all over would cost us anyway.

Last April, we took a cab from BC to US and back. It was almost $35 each way, plus tip.

Next Summer, we are starting at the Hard Rock for a few nights then switching to the CR. I think I'll arrange a town car from the airport to HR, then take a cab from HR to CR.

I think I'm just leaning towards renting a car. If I can get a good deal, I'll keep the car the entire week, but so far car rentals have been outrageous.

Just remember to figure in the US resort parking fees. They charge, unlike WDW.

Yes, thank you for the reminder. Now I'm wondering if its all too much of a hassle and we should just schedule a Mears bus from our Disney resort for 1 day at Universal, haha. I think having the front of the line pass would be awesome, but how busy will it be at the end of February anyway. We would most like go on Sunday Feb. 23rd. Ugh I can't make a decision!

I think we might just end up doing that. It would save us some money on a rental car, and the Universal hotel, and we'd get to enjoy the Magical Express from the airport. Decisions, decisions...

that is very expensive for a 1 day rental in Orlando. You need to go to the transportation board, find the thread for February car rentals and plug in some of the 'deals' that are sure to be there before you make up ur mind.

a midsize would likely be 1/2 that amount if not less.

You still pay to park at WDW...they just hide in the room charge so you don't notice it.

2nd- Disney builds it into the nightly resort charge, calls it a perk and everyone pays regardless of whether they bring a car or not .Universal only charges people who bring a car.

I'm subscribed to that thread and I'm very familiar with how to find the best deals, as I've done this in the past, but the rates lately have been outrageous for everyone. Nobody is finding good deals. But no I won't pay that much for a one day rental.

This is what we are doing this summer when we go to WDW and US (unless we change our minds and go to DL instead, lol. )

We are splitting up our stay between US and WDW...... but in a different sort of way.

1st stay will be at WDW Caribbean Beach for approx. 3-4 days. We will take Magical Express from MCO Airport TO the WDW resort.

2nd stay will be at US Royal Pacific for approx. 5-6 days. We are planning on taking the mears car service from WDW CBR to US Royal Pacific. (Approx $42. + tip). Then use the same service back to WDW at the end of our RPR stay (another approx. $42. + tip) BTW, this is for 4 people in a private towncar service.

3rd stay will be back at WDW Port Orleans for 3-4 days . We will take Magical Express back to the MCO airport .

So all in, we will have approx. $100. in transportation costs between 3 different hotel stays between US and WDW. No renting a car cost savings, and no paying $18. per day for parking at Royal Pacific for a car we wont be using (that alone will be close to $100 for 5-6 days).

Still haven't decided, but we may rent a car for a one day trip to Busch Gardens in Tampa. Likely right at RPR, or Portifino Bay using Hertz. I am figuring that will cost approx. $50. - $60. for a day.

Look around and be creative. You can find cost effective ways of getting around from WDW to US , and the airports too.
