TSA has created an optional communication card that helps travelers discreetly inform transportation security officers (such as airport security screeners) about any disability, medical condition or medical device that could affect security screening. Travelers simply write their personal information on the wallet-sized card and hand it to the security officer. These cards do not exempt anyone from security screening. This link opens a PDF document.

 The card looks kind of hokey. There is no room for information, just a space for a dx. Is it legit?

My understanding is for a site to be a ".gov", it has to be government run. I think it is legit.

I clicked on the link you posted and it took me to the TSA site. I did a search for the Disability Notification Card for Air Travel. on the TSA site. It came up with this "For information about the Disability Notification Card for Air Travel, go to: http://www.disability.gov/viewResource?id=13765195." The link on TSA took me back to the first site. Government at its best. :scared1:

We will have to wait to see how this pans out, but it sure looks legit to me. If you do searches many organizations for the disabled are talking about it and providing links (PDF files) to get the card.

How helpful this would be is yet to be seen, but it sounds like a step in the right direction.

I printed them out and are going to try them when we go at the end of January. If someone else doesn't try it first and report back how it went, I will when I get home.

I am a fairly active member of a bladder cancer site and at least one member has reported great success with the new card. After Tom's incident with the TSA dislodging his bag and having to proceed through the airport with urine on his clothes, we were all very concerned about traveling. The new card seems to be something that will really help to let the TSA know what your special needs are.

I also know from Tom that the TSA is actively looking at how to accommodate those with special needs. He is one of the people meeting with them this month to try to set some protocols for screening those with certain disabilities.
