I'm so confused with all the transportation to get to the parks. How to get where, how long to plan for wait/travel time. Can anyone help me understand this in a very simple way?

We are staying at OKW. We will be going to all 4 WDW parks. We will also want to go to Universal for one day and then go to Kennedy Space Center. We are not getting a car so need to figure the best routes - fastest and best cost for all these.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks!
Kerrie

The Disney buses from OKW are wonderful! Because it's a large resort, it seems to get lots of buses. In the mornings, there will be a bus for each of the parks at 10-15 minute intervals. Later in the morning it will be every 20 minutes or so, and by afternoon it is more like every 30 minutes. It does take about 12 minutes for the bus to move through the resort to the 5 different bus stops. You will have to take a cab for Universal, and you definitely need to rent a car to go to the Kennedy space center. I am not aware of any public transportation over to the coast.

I assume you will be staying longer than a week. Each Disney park (with the exceptio of DHS) will take two days each, and Epcot could take longer. Especially if this is your first trip. It will take a whole day to do the Kennedy Space center, since it will take about an hour and a half to get there from Orlando, and there is plenty to do there all day. There are two Universal parks too, so that would take up to a day each as well. The trip you are planning sounds like at least 10 day minimum.

In my opinion, if you're using WDW transportation to the parks you should do the following -- allow 1/2 hour from the time you get to the bus waiting area until you arrive at the unloading zone for the park, and increase that to 1 hour if you absolutely have to be there by a specific time (like for a reservation.) If you get there earlier than expected you can wait at the park, but if you want to be there by a certain time and a bus is delayed (perhaps someone in a wheelchair got on during the previous stop,) you'll just get frustrated waiting at the bus stop.

I just remind myself that transportation is free, I'm not the one driving, and I don't have to worry about finding a parking space. Worrying about a few minutes one way or another isn't my idea of a vacation. :-)

As far as the other places, I think Diane has said it all.

The "best cost" would be to plan to have a rental car as you're going big distances for cab fare. Keep the rental for just the few days you need to leave WDW, then ditch it when you don't need it. You won't need the cab during the WDW portion of your stay.
