Just a couple transportation questions for all you smart people... :)

My boyfriend and I will be visiting in late January and I'm looking for the most efficient way to get from one place to another and about how long it will take to do so. I'm thinking about getting a rental car but I don't want to waste the money if Disney transportation will be able to get me where I need to be without too much hassle. We don't mind walking either if that would be the easiest way to get there. So...here we go:

- contemporary resort to boardwalk
- MGM to downtown disney...also, how late do they provide transportation back to the resorts? we'll be staying at pop century

Thanks so much in advance for the insight!

I think transportation is pretty easy to use. We usually drive to Disney, and I never get back in my car. Sometimes I find it is confusing to drive. To get from resort to resort is a little more time consuming though. From the Contemporary you could take the monorail, then get off at ticket & transportation. Then you would switch to the Epcot Monorail, then walk to Boardwalk. It may be better to take the monorail to MK, then catch a bus to the Boardwalk. You can not go from park to park with the bus system. So to go from MGM, you would probably have to go back to a resort & then catch a bus to DTD. I could be wrong, but I think that is what you have to do. I know you can walk to the epcot resorts from MGM, so maybe you could do that then catch a bus from there to DTD. I think transportation runs about 2 hours past park closing.

I understand about the transportation. The first time we went we used Disney transportation. This time last year we used the rental car. In October we had a rental car, but used the Disney transportation a few times. It's just great to have the car so you can when you would like and after a long day, you don't have to around anyone.

1. if MK is open, walk from the CR to MK and take the bus to BW. If MK is closed, take the MGM bus from CR and walk/boat to BW.

2. Walk/take boat to BW and take the bus to DTD.]

3. 2AM is the last bus leaving DTD.

You can not go from park to park with the bus system.

There IS transportation between the parks (how else can WDW sell park hoppers if they don't have transportation :teeth:

Check out www.ourlaughingplace.com it allows you to enter a start & end location and will give you all options available as far as Disney transportation is concerned and will even give you approximate time it will take for travel using Disney transportation or your own vehicle. Worked well for me in October. Keep in mind though that the time they give you is a little longer than it really takes to get between places and that you must account for wait time (til bus, boat or monorail arrives) which isn't included in their time.

mgm to dtd...take boat to swan/dolphin and then bus to dtd...if you walk, then walk to the boardwalk and take the bus to dtd...getting to boardwalk from cr works best from mk.

What I meant was you could not take, for instance a bus from MK directly to MGM. You would have to go from a resort, or maybe TTC (not sure if you can do that).

But I am saying that there ARE direct non stop busses from park to park.

DTD is not a park so you're right saying that to go from MGM to DTD you need to go to a resort. But, you can be at Epcot and get on an AK bus and it will take you DIRECTLY to AK for example.

The caveats
Park busses going to/from MK pickup/drop off passengers at the TTC. (so again you're example of MK to MGM is correct)

There is no bus between Epcot and MK because it has the monorail.

I guess I never realized this. Is there a bus stop at Epcot that are labeled for the other parks? Or is it just to go to AK? Does any of the other parks have bus stops, like to go from MGM to MK?

yes, there are dedicated bus stops at each of the parks.

At Epcot, there will be a stop labeled AK and a stop labeled MGM.

At AK, there will be a bus stop labeled Epcot, a separate one labeled MGM, and a third one labeled MK(this one may say TTC, I don't remember).

At MGM same thing as AK

At the TTC, there are separate stops labeled AK and MGM
