We are heading down next summer, and are kind of trying to figure out costs - I'm sure you can all understand - we do have to factor in the exchange rate! ;)

I don't want to rent a car - just for the simple fact that I don't want to spend the money on a rental if I don't have to. I know we don't when we are staying in WDW. We will be taking Mears from the airport to get to our hotel in WDW (round trip $40 - please someone correct me if I'm wrong). We will also be staying right on site in Universal (Mears charges $10, I think), then taking a shuttle to Sea World from there.

The problem lies in the following - we really want to go to Florida Mall and then to the Outlet mall, close to DTD. Does anybody know an inexpensive way to get to these places?

If in the end the rental car is cheaper, we will go for that. But, last time I never factored in parking and gas, and it ended up being way more than I anticipated. Any advice would be appreciated!

Thanks, Jo

Someone had suggested to me that the cheapest way to take a cab to the Premium outlet mall, would be from DTD instead of from AKL where we are staying. It would be around $15 each way.

Florida Mall is further away so it would cost more.

What time are you arriving in Orlando? The cheapest way to go might be a one day rental if you want to do it all in one day. Rent from the airport, and on the same day go to the mall, return to the care care centre or Swan & Dolphin when done. It would depend on your arrival time, store closing times and weather you want to shop all in one day.

The total cost for mears and cabs would be more expensive.

The cab fare from DTD to the Premium Outlet Mall is at most $10 including tips (at most). Some cab drivers would ask for $15... just go to the next cab.

You can use ME to get to your WDW resort, if you're going to WDW straight from the airport ... and it's free !

Happy Planning !

Thanks!!! That is really kind....If you are going to be there around the end of August next year, let me know...

This trip is the last one I will be taking before I am officially a full time licensed registered nurse, so I will be broke from all the schooling (will still have 8 months!), but we wanted to have one trip before she becomes a mom, and I become employed! So, I'm sure you all can understand why we need to save a bit of money!

:rotfl: When I said "ME", I didn't mean me, as in myself, I meant Disney's new Magical Express service! However, if I were around, I'd do it for you too! Anything for a friendly fellow Canadian! I was thinking when I read your post that I hadn't seen you around the boards in a while. Disney started this service for guests flying into MCO around May of this year. It's a free bus from airport to resort and back. And you put these special tags on your luggage before you check it, and Disney folks grab it at the airport and transport it to your resort, and deliver it to your room!

I used it a few weeks ago and it's great!

Congrats on getting so close to your degree! I know you've worked really hard for this ... any chance of you coming to southwestern Ontario after you're done ... we could sure use you! And it's a lot cheaper to fly to Disney from nearby Detroit or Buffalo, if that in any way can influence your decision ;)

Take care, Jo !

Jo, I thought Mary Liz was talking about herself as well, and she's related to me. I like the idea of a one day rental to do the mall thing. I haven't rented for a while but it seems that a one day rental would be waay less than your transportation from the airport, and only one cab ride to one mall.

How you'll resist going straight to the resort though, I can't help you with. Pretend that you're not really going to Disney until the next day.

Congratulations on your degree. I've always wanted to be a nurse but it just wasn't in the cards. I just couldn't pass that darn Calculus course; and I work in finance, just not with "x's" and "y's".

Ok Maryliz - Put a good smile on my face. Sometimes those acronyms just confuse me....

The ME does sound like a good idea - we may have to do that when we get there!

As far as going to Ontario after my degree - I actually want to work as a humanitarian nurse and travel the world with my degree. I know there are SO many jobs for nurses - it's kind of a little overwhelming. In my third year, and I'm already getting job offers. I still have a year to go!

Susan - just to let you know - I never had to do calculus, but I had to go back and redo senior high school Chemistry in my mid-20's to get into the program. In my second year, they implemented new requirements to get into the program and now people who apply need to have a course called Math 30 pure (in Alberta) to raise the par for applicants. This course, honestly, has to be the hardest course I have ever attempted (note this word) to take. It is seriously harder than most univesrity engineering math course. A little ridiculous for grade 12 students to attempt to do this class, but it's a new rule. I then had to do statistics for the program (ah - those well rounded educations) and it was very difficult, but I pulled through. Of course, it was all because of the tutor I was seeing twice a week.

Anyways, thanks everyone. I feel that I have been out of the loop with my "Disney family".
