We could save about $500 by booking our return flight from Costa Rica at 8 am. I know ABD doesn't want you leaving before noon. If we booked this flight, would they still provide transportation for us, or would we be on our own?

How far is the airport from the last night hotel? If it is an hour or more I am thinking that might be the reason. I would call ABD and ask.

I have a similar issue but it is on my inbound flight to Italy in May, the website states flight to land no later than 3 pm, so as soon as I received confirmation from my travel agent that I got the trip I booked my air as I wanted to use miles. The flight lands in rome at like 145 or so then I received the ABD paperwork and it said no later than 1 pm. Oh well I am not worried about it.

ABD utilizes group transfers for the departure on this Adventure, so they will not offer individual transfers.

You are welcome to secure your own transfers, if you choose.

Any savings you might find on airfare might be offset by which airport you choose and how willing you are to have a horrible departure time.

Liberia International is approximately a 45 minute ride from the hotel.

San Jose Airport is approximately a 4 hour ride from the hotel.

Following the "rule" of arriving 2 - 3 hours early for an international flight, this would mean departing the hotel for Liberia International at 4:00am ish. For a flight from San Jose airport, it would mean departing the hotel 7 + hours in advance...or 1:00am ish.

Hope this helps.

These arrival times are set up to allow you to get from the airport, check in and freshen up in time for your Welcome Dinner.

They are unimportant if you schedule pre nights, as you are on your own.

I am aware of this as it is my 5th trip, it is unimportant to me even though I am not doing pre nights, the savings on the airfare since I booked using miles is what is allowing me to take 2 ABD trips this year. I brought it up as it was a topic of the thread.

I see you already got the answer from Kevin. It's been my experience that when ABD specifies "Don't book a departure flight before X time" it means there's a group transfer. Southwest Splendors has the same thing, since it's quite a long drive from Moab to the airport in Grand Junction, and there was only the one group transfer.

I wasn't suggesting that you were unaware.

We have many people that read these boards for information.

While this may be unimportant to you, it may be important to others who question the reason for arrival and departure parameters.

You quoted my post therefore you were addressing me and it came off very condesening.

I'm sorry that you feel that stating factual information is condescending.

It was certainly not my intent.

I was addressing something that you said was unimportant and I have no idea what your level of experience is with ABD.

Others may find this pertinent information.

My information related to your post, so that it was why I copied it.

Thank you! I think DH was able to find a flight that left at 12:30, and it was still in the lower of the price ranges.
