Ok dis-peeps, so my family is going to Disney in August and while this is not our first trip this is our first time flying and we will be landing in Orange County (JW) airport and we are trying to figure out how to get to the hotel. We are staying at the DLH and are just curious should we use a private shuttle service or the free hotel shuttle service, and if so please share your experiences. We will have 2 adults and 2 kiddos.

We have the same scenario (2 & 2, SNA) and we take a taxi. I think it's $45 + tip and we're at the hotel 25 mins after walking outside. From baggage claim it's about 100 feet to the area where taxis and shuttles pick up at and there is a line of taxis waiting and we're off in 2 mins. We haven't used a shuttle before but with those the times can take longer if you aren't the first drop off point. Plus, if you're the first on a shuttle they may wait until it's full before leaving. I've heard that with shuttles it's usually best to plan to get to your hotel an hour after landing to pad possible wait times.

So, having said that, guess it's what that possible wait time is worth to you. For $45ish you'll be there in 25 mins. You may get lucky and get on a shuttle that's just leaving and be the first drop off and be there in 25 mins for a smaller cost or no cost at all, but just as easily not arrive until an hour after picking up your luggage as well.

If you're not in any hurry a shuttle would be fine but if you need/want to get there quickly a taxi may be the way to go.

I will add that the whole setup of SNA is great. A really easy terminal to get through, picking up luggage is a breeze and it's a straight shot to the tax/shuttle stands. So, you'll definitely appreciate choosing SNA.

There is no free shuttle to the DLH. There is the Disneyland Express run by Grayline. They stop at most of the hotels in the area, not just the Disney hotels and one way for two adults and two kids is about $40.

I would take a taxi. Might cost a bit more, but you won't have to wait for others or stop at other hotels along the way!

We have taken the cab (always clean and safe) many times from SNA to the resort area and paid $36~$44 and never more. Price is the same regardless of baggage or no. of people.
There is no fast way to the resort area!
The shuttle is probably more expensive (form what I've read here) so if you want to save over that I suggest Uber. Folks here say it cost a little more than half what a cab costs.
We'll probably use them next time.
If you have a free shuttle then I would use that though.

We use Uber unless traveling with my parents in which case we used Lansky's last Aug. I love SNA, we were off the plane at 3, had our 3 checked bags and in car at 3:20, arrived to hotel at 3:40.

That's just one more thing we prefer about going to DLR; We can get off the place at SNA (no checked bags) and be in the parks within 45 minutes! So we travel in the morning and have lunch in the parks.

Taxi = About $45 plus tip. No hassle. Right outside baggage claim at SNA. Now - you didn't say if you needed car seats.....

I need carseats so Uber won't work. I looked at the Lansky and it says $80.00. Is that per person?

No, that's the total cost- a little cheaper round trip and that includes tip. I'm not sure what the capacity limit is as it was just 2 of us. When we went a couple of weeks ago, Lanskys was the only one who provided a car seat.

We had great experience and wouldn't hesitate to use them again.

I used super shuttle my last trip. Price was reasonable. We did the shared van. As soon as our plane landed I had a message on my phone from super shuttle that confirmed we had landed and they were standing by ready to get us. We waited under 5 minutes for our ride. But I'm not sure how hey handle car seats.

I'm always torn on this subject! The Disneyland Express shuttle is usually less convenient to use than other modes of transportation, and it may be more expensive depending on how many people and how old the kids are, but we still take it if it works out because it just feels more fun ... and also because I think it's more comfortable. It's a nice big Gray Line bus so you're not crammed in the back of a taxi or in one of those shuttles that don't have headrests. Plus getting on the Disney-themed bus just makes me happy! The downside is that it only runs about once an hour, so if you happen to get there right after one has left, you'll be waiting an hour for the next one.

They do take reservations, but we don't make reservations in case we get there at a bad time because it's pay in advance and non refundable. So if that's the case we will probably Uber. Although you could easily just go grab a bite to eat inside the airport since SNA is pretty convenient. You just call 800-828-6699 to confirm the time of the next bus and you can pay on board. $20 one way adults only, 11 and under free with a paying adult. There is a discount for roundtrip.

To get to the bus, after exiting the baggage claim area at Terminal B, go outside to the Ground Transportation Center. Pickups are in the front of the Grayline/DL Express booth located to the left.
