Hello
I was wondering if someone could help me with a question about getting around. This our first time staying on Disney property and we were planning on using their free transportation throughout our visit. My question is with the buses shutting down an hour after closing would we be able to make it to our hotel from the Animal Kingdom Lodge after our dinner starting at 7:50. We are staying at the Beach Club Resort. We do have 4 kids, so getting around is always a little bit of a challenge.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Well, if all the parks are closed for the night (check EMH's also) and you wanted to do free, you could take a bus from AKL to Downtown Disney, then a bus back to CBR. Honestly, before I'd make that trip, I think I'd consider just taking a cab from AKL to CBR.. They are pretty close so it wouldnt be that much.
But being that time, Epcot would probably still be open, but I still would consider a cab for that trip.

edit: I just realized the OP was talking BC and not CBR.. I swear it had CBR listed earlier.. oh well... Goofy4tink listed the other info.

Would we all fit in one cab? There are 6 of us total? Do we have to prearange that or are there ones waiting? Thanks for your help.

You will find that there are van cabs available. You can have valet services call for one when you need it..right at the resort.
If you choose to go with the buses, I would find out if a park is open late that night...EMHs or a party type thing. Then, you can take the park bus to that park from AKL and then transfer to your resort bus...but, that is going to be an issue if the park that is open late is either DHS or Epcot. With Epcot, you are then going to have to walk all the way through Epcot, and this means having a park pass to do so. If you head for DHS, you can then either take the boat back to BC or you can just walk along the sidewalk that runs from DHS, along the canal, to YC/BC, past the BW and S/D.
Or head to DTD and transfer there.

I know the day we are going to dinner Animal Kingdom is open late (EMH). Our plan was to head from there to dinner. I guess we just need to make a decision about getting home afterward. Thanks for your help.

Your best option to not spend any money is to take the bus to dtd then transfer to the beach club bus. The bus stop runing two hour after the park closes but thats only to get guest out of the park to their resort. So they wont let you board a bus that going to park that closed unless you left your car in the parking lot.

I'm not exactly sure why you think a bus driver isn't going to let you board the bus to MK (for instance) at AKL if it is close to park closing. I have never ever heard of a driver telling a guest that they aren't allowed on the bus since that park is closing or closed.

But, it's a moot point here...the park with EMHs that night is AK, so that won't work. The best case scenario is to take either the bus to DTD and then to BC or to just get a cab.

I once suggestested to board a bus to a park that was closed to transfer and got pm by a nice disney bus driver. He told me that if the park closed they wont allow you to board that bus unless you car is in the parking lot. Not sure if every bus driver will not let your board but i think that it is disney policy to keep the buses from picking up people so they can be dispacthed to another park on short notice. I am sure if the park is going to close at let say 10 and your at the stop at 955 you be fine but i think if your their at 1030 they my not let you board. Your right dtd is the best option at night if you dont want to take a taxi but the taxi will be the easiest way. If there a disney bus driver on hear if i am wrong please let me know i going by what a very nice disney transport driver told me.

I stand corrected. One of our most wonderful bus drivers has told me that they will not allow a guest on a bus that is headed to a closed park. So, best to find one that is going to be open for awhile yet.:thumbsup2

Having never paid for a taxi before, do they charge per person or is it a flat rate? (we had 6 people in our family growing up; maybe that's why I don't ever recall riding in a taxi!)

Taxi is a flat rate -- actually usually a per mile rate irregardless of the number of people.

Checker Cab, the official taxis at WDW, charge 55 cents per quarter mile + $1.65 "flag drop" + 55 cents per minute of wait time.

The regular taxis say they carry up to 5 passengers (seems like a tight fit), and the taxi vans (which are plentiful at WDW) carry up to 7 passengers.

This may be a dumb question, but are you required to have car seats for the taxi. I would have an infant and a 2 year old.

Yes you are required to use car seats in taxis just like would have to in your car but mears will have some car seats you should call ahead to make sure they dont run out.

I say mears because they are the only company allowed to wait on disney property to pick up fares and the company disney will call if you ask for a van.So if you arange it on your own with a different company let them know you need 2 car seats.
