Transportation question for those of you who do TS meals

The DW and I prefer to eat at TS places while we are at Disney. Because of this we usually try to stay somewhere on the monorail loop, since we have found that it is typically easier to get to places. However, places that aren't on the monorail loop can be tricky and time-consuming to get to on Disney transportation

My question is this...for those of you like us, how do you get around? Do you have your own car and drive, or do you suck it up and take Disney Transportation? :confused3

TIA.

we used disney transportation this past May for all our reservations.....two at Epcot, one in MGM studios ...one at Chef Mickeys, and one at AK......we were not unhappy with the transporation at all.....

Stayed at CBR and found it easy to get anywhere we wanted on DT. The only issue was getting to MGM from MK, long trip w/too many transfers. I don't feel the need to stay on the monorail line to get around WDW.

TS: Boma directly from AK then bus to Epcot for Illumations

TS: Narcoossee's bus to MK then boat to GF, lovely "cruise"

TS: Chef Mickey's bus to MK walk back to Contemporary

TS: Coral Reef monorail from MK to Epcot, easy

How were you doing that...there's a direct bus to Studios from TTC. You'd ride the monorail to TTC and then catch the bus to Studios from there. That's one transfer.

Simple. Take a taxi. I don't think I have ever paid more than $20 to get from point A to Point B on Disney property, including a tip.

If you need to do it every day it is cheaper to rent a car, but if it is just for a few meals then a taxi is the perfect choice.

It was a long trip. You trudge out of MK, take ramp up to the monorail. Wait. Ride the monorail. Take ramp down the monorail. Walk over to TTC and find the DHS stop. Wait. Get to MGM. Enter MGM, find restaurat. My view this was time consuming and a pain. Some won't see it that way. It took 45-hr to get to dinner, too frigand long. I won't ever book an MK/DHS ADR combo. We had a park plan change that day so that wasn't the routing planned when we made the ADR. We were late for the ADR, still were seated and enjoyed the meal, no harm done, but lesson learned. Every other trip we took probably took less then 30mins total.

Hindsight is 20/20 but it might have been easier to take a bus from MK to one of the Epcot resorts (BW/Swan/etc) & then ride the ferry boat over to DHS:confused3

We always use Disney Transportation to get to all of our meals, and we've never had a problem.

The boat's kind of slow, too.

The best way to do that would be to take the Swolphin bus, get out at either the Swan or Dolphin (whichever comes first) and walk to the Swolphin boat dock. That is the last stop the boat makes before Studios.

Funny you should say that because we were originally leaving Epcot to get to MGM, but a certain 5yo wanted to ride Goofy's Barnstormer and Grandma obliged. I was playing golf and met them at MK, but I too would have taken him back to MK for a spin on Goofy's. He rode that thing everyday and still talks about it a year later.

It was all good, but just lesson learned. Factor in the time or don't do the DHS/MK route. I'd rather start a DHS trip from a resort rather than a park next time. We were still being carted around at WDW so it wasn't that bad.

We've done both...rental car the last couple of trips and disney transportion previously and this year. I prefer to rent a car but this year since airfare was double what it was last year we didn't get one. The only thing I would say about disney transportation would be:
If you have a ressie at a resort restaurant, leave yourself 1 hour travel time from your resort to your resort restaurant. Otherwise, we've never really had any problems

We use disney transportation and never have any real problems. We always leave at least an hour, if travelling from one resort to another. If we have to transfer at DTD (ie parks are closed after finishing dinner), we tend to grab a cab, the $20 is well worth the convenience of getting home in 10 minutes.

I agree with the taxi suggestion. When we're eating at a TS at a resort, taxi is the way to go. We have stayed at the Grand floridian recently (and will for our upcoming trip) so anything on the monorail loop is easy. But we are taking a taxi to AKL for Jiko rather than wasting an hour or so on disney transportation. It is also way less stressful to take a taxi (my mother always does this no matter where she is going for dinner) around WDW for dinner.

I always rent a car on my WDW trips, and resort dining is part of the reason.

I enjoy eating at 'Ohana, Trails End, and Boma, and on my next trip I'll also be eating at Boatwright's in POR. Transportation to AKL and POR are limited to buses, and I just don't like waiting for buses, only to find that I have to stand up the whole way. When I have a car, I get there faster and I always get a seat.

Having a car also allows me to dine off-site conveniently. I can go to Chevy's Fresh Mex at the Crossroads, Sonny's BBQ, or try one of the dinner shows off-site like Medeival TImes, Arabian Nights, or Pirates. I can also get to the off-site Disney outlet stores whenever I want.

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: We must be long lost cousins or something :lmao:
First of all, grandma or I (mom) would have done the same thing for DS :thumbsup2 Secondly, when DS was 6 he felt the same way about the barnstormer only I had to ride it with him over & over & over :rotfl:
