Been to Florida four times and we haven't visited the ocean yet. We're thinking this definitely needs to be something we do. What is the best way of doing so if we don't have our own transporation?

I would rent a car for a couple of days so that you could get to either coast. I believe the east coast is about an hour, and the gulf coast is about 90 minutes, a bit more if you go all the way to St.Pete/Clearwater.

Renting a car is pretty much the only practical way to go to the beaches. There are some day-trip charters from I-drive hotels to Clearwater, but they cost about $85/pp for the day; WAY more than renting a car.

There are a couple of places on Disney property that you can rent a car -- and also at Grovesnor.

It is less expensive to rent for a few day if you go during the week rather than on the weekend... on the weekend it usually costs more than renting for a whole week (which is of course another option).

We like Cocoa Beach... very relaxing, lot's of resorts with nice beaches. Just double check that your hotel is on the beach side and not across the street! The private beaches are so much more convienent.

Have fun!

I've found the exact opposite to be true 99% of the time. Normally a 1-day rental (that is, 24 hours) will not be eligible for any coupon codes; those normally require a 3-day minimum keep. On a weekday, single-day rentals are usually charged at the daily business rate, which varies, but normally starts at about $40, on up to around $100, depending on the vehicle class. If you can rent on a weekend, with a Saturday night keep, the lowest price often can be as little as about $15 for 24 hours. However, rental prices veer all over the map, so try both scenarios before you make your final plans.

Central Florida beaches tend to be pretty packed on summer weekends, so do choose a weekday if having a bit more space to move around is more important to you.
