Hi! We are thinking about staying off site this year and renting a villa. I saw a really get deal (actually lots of great deals) on a vacation rental web site, hopefully its legit! My question is....how do we get from the villa to the parks? Is there public transportion usually? Thanks!

Hi there :)

I suppose it depends where you will be staying - but every time we go to WDW either on or off site we hire a car.

In December we stayed at Emerald Island and I would say you definitely needed a car. Some of the communities have shuttle buses, but if you are going to the parks each day (as we normally stay for a few weeks) it works out cheaper to hire a car. Also there was nowhere nearby to walk to and no public buses.

We have also stayed at Windsor Hills, Windsor Palms and Sheraton Vistana on Intnl Drive - I would have thought out of them all, we may have been able to catch the Lynx bus from the last one.

For me, to hire a car is really the only option when off site :)

For the most part, the tourist areas are not well served by public transportation. If you are renting an offsite home, you really will want a rental car.

My saying is, "If you had a car, you would have been there already." Even if you stayed on-site you'd be best served to rent a car for time and convenience. Even the "best" transportation service will eat into at least 1-2hrs of your day every day.

I wouldn't stay offsite without a car. Even with shuttles, they are never that great and there will always be a time when you want to go back to where you are staying, but have to wait an extended period of time for the shuttle. Just go on priceline or hotwire and bid on a rental car to try to get a deal.

I'll second and third the rental car suggestion but....not everyone is willing to drive on vacation, some people don't drive and some people can't rent a car.

People in that situation

Onsite Disney, including the S/D would be my first choice.

Any of the official DTD hotels would be my next choice. The DTD hotels have a good shuttle service.

Looking for a vacation home/condo experience. Wyndham Bonnet Creek would be my (only choice) if I wanted to rely on shuttle buses. I guess places like Orange Lake would work if you're willing to spend almost all the $$$ you're saving on taxis.
