We just returned from an amazing 8 day vacation staying in Disney World! But (2) weeks prior to departure, I learned that our flight on Allegiant Air would not fly us into Orlando but Sanford Airport approx 40 min from Disney! We sort of panicked! I couldn't cancel our flight or rebook...so this was or plan! It turned out great and would do it again.
I rented a car online to be picked up at the Sanford airport when we landed. I searched for the cheapest which turned out to be Avis at $54. The next day we made a food run to Walmart, for snacks, water etc. we then returned the car to Avis at the Holiday Inn, Hotel Drive Buena Vista, we found a bus that picks up and drops off those staying at any of the Disney outside hotels, so we hopped on and made our way to one of the parks.
The day before our departure, we took one of the buses back to the area we dropped the car off, and walked across the street to Westin where we picked up out return car from Dollar Rent a car for $43.
It ended up being cheaper to do it this way than rent a car for the entire week ($100 cheaper)
