Do the buses go from one DVC resort to another? Do DVC members usually rent cars while staying if interested in pool hopping or visiting other DVC resorts? Thanks for any info.

There is no direct resort-to-resort transportation at WDW (except for resorts that are on the same bus line). You have to take transportation to a "hub", like DD or one of the parks, and switch buses/monorails.

Having a rental car makes getting around resort-to-resort a lot easier. However, you can either allow lots of time to use WDW transportation or pay for a cab.

Transportation between WDW resorts, DVC or otherwise, is through changing buses at either the parks (when they are open) or through DTD when the parks are closed. We find that going from resort to resort is easies with a rental car. We usually can get a reasonable car that makes it a wash costwise with using a towncar or bus from the airport to WDW. That gives us the option for going to the resaurants at the other resorts or runing for groceries etc. The only cheaper option we have found is a cab.

VWL is probably one of the easiest to pool hop from - just take the boat to the Cont or MK then the Monrail to the Polyn, Cont, or GF.

BCV can pool hop to BWV (but why SALB is so much better) - but they can - they can walk over.

OKW is to far from the other resorts to walk - too - well - you could walk to POFQ/POR - I have done it - so don't listen to others telling you - you can't....

SSR is to far from the other resorts to pool-hop - that is if pool-hoping is still allowed - which it may not as OKW is getting a slide.

It depends on what you want. We were lucky enough to get to pool hop from BWV to SAB while the pool slide was closed. Great pool - unless you are the type of parent who wants to watch your kid from a beach chair while sipping a rum drink! At SAB you either get in the pool with them, or hope they show up at the appointed time and place. Ours were still get-in-the-pool-regardless age (and they loved the pirate slide! Definately worth the walk), but we will be avoiding BCVs from the six to twelve age - where you will find us sitting somewhere where the entire pool can be scanned from a bar stool or beach chair.

To the OP - we don't rent a car - hate to drive. We take cabs for resort to resort travel. But most people planning on a lot of resort to resort travel will drive.

Renting a car is the only way to go! It pays for itself in the money you save on food and grocerys alone. With a car you can drive outside your resort and find much more affordable grocerys and meals. As far as disney transportation it's not the best. We do use it to go some parks, but be ready to stand for long periods of time and too wait for the buses. We once waited almost an hour and a half for a bus. Hope you have a great time!
