My family is going to be visiting Orlando and WDW for the first time 12/17-12/27/06. We are staying at a hotel on International Drive and renting a car. Can anyone take a downtown disney bus back to the disney resorts? Do they require a hotel key or something to get on the bus? Bascially, I would like to know if we spend half a day at DisneyQuest and have parked at Downtown Disney, can we just get on one of the Disney buses to go to a theme park? I know that the buses go to resorts, but from there could we take other Disney transportation to a park? If anyone has any parking tips, I would really appreciate them.

No. Too many people were doing that, and the car parks were filling up early in the day so that no-one else could park at Downtown to shop. Disney therefore stopped running buses between DTD & parks.

Yes. If you don't mind spending more time riding around on buses than visting a park

By making a bus connection at a Disney resort, you can indeed go to the theme parks. I've not seen the bus drivers ask for proof that you're staying at the hotel. For the MK you could take a bus to the Contemporary Resort or Polynesian (whichever bus arrives first) and connect to the monorail for the rest of the journey.

Parking tips: Drive to the park you plan to visit; pay parking fee; park; enjoy day; leave; return directly to car; return directly from parking lot to offsite hotel.

Yep, she's right. Otherwise, this will be your scenario....for example: you head for a bus to the CR in order to go to MK. So, you could very possibly wait for 30 minutes for the bus, then a 15 minute, or so, ride to CR. Then, an 8-10 minute walk to MK. So, you've used up close to an hour....more if you are headed to a different park. So, unless you want to tie up about 2 1/2 hrs. of your day, going back and forth to DTD, in order to avoid the $10 parking fee, I would just drive to the park I wanted to go to and park.
