Some bullets on how to survive the transportation system and WDW:

*the signs can be confusing to which hotel your bus is going, read carefully
*just because you have 100x zoom on your camcorder doesn't help you out at all if you announce to the whole crowd which theme park bus is approaching
*fold up strollers will still hit someone's knee when you get on the bus
*if you get on first, go toward the back, it is easier to get off
*be sure your camcorder is turned off on your bus trip. there is nothing worse than having 20 minutes of your bus ride to AK shot inside a camera bag
*refillable mugs + coffee + bus=stained shorts
*please have your strollers folded before you get to the bus door
*you can't ride in the front of the monorail if you don't ask
*you will be the hit of the monorail crowd if you will just learn how to say, "please stand clear of the doors" in spanish--(side note- you will NOT be the hit of your family if you repeat it incessantly the entire trip)
*if at the end of a long, hot day you feel lucky to have a sit down seat on the bus back to DXL, you may not feel so lucky if the man standing in the aisle above you has a cutoff shirt and the worst case of B.O. you've ever experienced..(Seinfeldism-"it's an entity!")
*take a taxi after Illuminations back to your hotel....i'm not proud to say I have found there is NO SHORTCUTS.
*you'll really find how small a world it is if you will strike up a conversation with the family seated next to you-and see them constantly the rest of your trip....
*as cute as it maybe, a video'd bus ride is not that exciting and may cause motion sickness to some vieweres
*sippy cups and baby bottles can roll all the way to the rear of the bus
*don't be a disney dud and not make room for other passengers..i'm amazed at how once people get on the bus that they think they are God's gift to transportation
*make the baby laugh in front of you--amazingly, babbling works in all languages
*DO NOT stare at the nasally accented whiners who are complaining about how bad their day was..
*DO NOT listen to the Disney Bubba who is so darned mad about how much everything cost
*turn off your cell phone- if you get a call while on board, you will be reprimanded and made fun of by the bus driver and face the consternation of the rest of the passengers
*the whole bus really doesn't care what you think Mr. knowitall
*for an amazing "E-ticket" ride, try standing on one foot in the aisle all the way from MK to PO.
*how come you are always changing a poopy diaper when your bus finally comes?
*the bus (to any theme park and especially AK) will be the last to come as you wait at the bus stop
*if you have to run to make the bus, you probably will make it--but if you don't, it will mess up your whole day
*for fun, count how many times during your stay someone gets on the bus and says to the bus driver, "where does this go?"
*teach your pre-schooler how to recognize the names of the park by sight so you don't have to hear, "which bus is that daddy?" 200 times in a week
***you are a TRANSPORTATION GOD if you can get the whole bus
going in a sing-a-long......

WHEN TO GIVE UP YOUR SEAT ON THE BUS:
-to any pregnant lady
-to any families with small children
-someone you know who will obviously have a hard time standing
for a length of time
-all ladies (notice i use ladies, not women)...shouldn't chilvary live
-to that attractive lady when your wife is mad at you for giving "that look" when she asked if she should buy that expensive souvenir (that possibly should be on the "when not to give up your seat on the bus" list)(i could also put that on the "when to find a good chair around the quiet pool for the nite"list)

WHEN NOT TO GIVE UP YOUR SEAT ON THE BUS:
-any person who starts complaining as soon as they get on
-south american tourists (cause they would never do anything for you)
-when your a man but have two kids sitting atop you

Got any others?

I think you found some things that everyone can relate to... ;) !

Goofyme,

I love you list! The bus rides are actually a highlight for me, and now I know how to make it better! On ournext trip, I am striving for the sing along!

Good list except your comment about walking by people in First Class on the plane. I fly first class a lot, but don't think I'm God's gift to transportation. I do it because I fly alot, and therefor get a lot fo upgrades and/or have a lot of miles to burn. When seated in FC I do the same thing as when seated in coach. Get in my seat, get buckled in, pull out a book and read.

Anne

Thanks for putting a lot of my thoughts in writing. Now I remember why I don't use WDW transporation anymore. You have to have a good sense of humor whether you're on the bus or just in the parks. PS, my hubby always talks to the babies, sometimes he can be quite embarrassing, but always gets smiles.

Ducklit, the comment about being God's gift to transportation was aimed at those folks who get on the Disney Bus and never make room for anyone else, not First class air.

I always did wonder though why they board the plane from the front to the back, it would make more sence to me to board from back to front.

Gerri-

They do board from back to front in coach. The reason they let the FC pax on first is very simple. There aren't many of them, they get on quickly and then are served a pre-flight beverage (usually). That way they aren't standing in a hot jetway while Joe and Mary Smith and their three precious brats take 8 minutes to bumble and fumble, find their seats, cram their stuff into overhads and under the seats, rearrange the kids three times because they are fighting over who gets the window, and standing up to take down stuff in the overhead because they didn't plan ahead, all the time blocking the way of other passengers.

One of my pet peeves is people who block aisles getting themselves and their stuff situated. Get on the plane, get in your seat, and sit your bleeping butt down!! There should be no need to block aisles to do this. If you hold anyone up, you're carrying on too much!!!! And if you're flying with kids and will need the extra time, get seats in the back of the plane where you'll hold up the least amount of people.

And if you can't QUICKLY get it into the overhead by yourself, CHECK IT!!! Your stuff is no ones responsibility but your own.

after further review, i take back my apology....i think it does fit after all

and people wonder why new jersey residents get such a bad reputation!

For the record, I am fron NJ and not all of us are like that!!!!

If you hate kids so much and have such an obvious superiority complex, why do you go to a plce meant for those young and young at heart, a plce where no one is supposed to care about who is better.

Get A Life!!!

I do not hate kids, nor do I have a superiority complex. Actually, just the opposite. What I don't like are inconsiderate people. When my son was young, I had the forethought to realize that it would take us longer to get settled in, so I booked our seats towards the back of the plane so as to not hold up anybody else. I also had the forethought to pack items I would need during the flight in a small tote that could be strored under the seat.

I do not carry on anything I can't manage. I don't expect others to assist me with my belongings. I do not hold up others during the boarding or deplaning process by blocking aisles while I gather my things. I don't charge up aisles and block the exit of passengers seated in rows forward of mine. I don't block the entrance to the jetway when I'm in row 8 and they are calling row 23.

And I don't always fly first class. Never when I have to pay for it. This threaad is about ettiquette. I try to be as courteous as possible when travelling. Just wish others would as well.

I never said anything about anyone being better than anyone else. This was about courtesy and being considerate of fellow travellers, nothing more.

Ducklite makes some very good points. I was on a plane a few weeks ago with a man and his family. The man was a frequent flyer, but his family was not. After his wife's third trip up and down the aisle (they were seperated!) he shouted at her (over 10 rows!) SIT DOWN! This plane can't leave until your a## is in the seat! All of us burst out laughing, but I could tell it was what the attendants had wanted to say!

I also agree with her on carryons. I saw a elderly woman with one of those roller boards last week. There was NO way this woman could lift this bag over her head. While it would be nice to think that someone will come to her rescue, I don't think that this was a good idea of hers. The men I travel will really won't help anyone anymore. Part of that is frustration and part of that is picking up bags that weigh 50 lbs and hurt their backs!

What on earth does flying have to do with the bus transportation at WDW?

Thanks you CherylH, i agree, I loved the initial post on the Bus System, and don't know how we made it to this point.

This started as a cute post about etiquette on WDW Transportation(buses, monorails and that sort of thing).

How exactly did it evolve into a debate on impatient, inconsiderate people on airlines?

Goofyme, THANKS for the laugh!!

I especially love the one about making the baby laugh!:)

I haven't laughed out loud on this board since...well, probably never. My favorite is the one about changing the baby's diaper. My kids have an uncanny way of ALWAYS having to "go" right about the time an event is starting or right after we've gotten settled in for an event/show/ride, etc. I swear they have discussions about this at night to see which one of them will be the one to say those magic words that make that bulge appear in our veins.

As for how this thread became so aggressive...this is exactly how the "Travel Pet Peeves" thread turned out and my candidness got me blasted by the same poster. (I'll probably get blasted for this...)

How about this one...It doesn't matter if you're the first one at the stop. You still won't be in the "perfect" spot to just walk in when the door opens - the bus will stop either short or long of where you're standing and the family that walked up to the bus stop 20 min. after you will be in just the right place and get on before you.
