transportation cost from airports

Does anyone know what the best shuttle is to use from Orange County to Disneyland. We can't use Disneyland Express because of our flight times :(

I like Karmel.

What is the closest airport to fly in to? I googled before and saw SNA/Orange County....but now reading these I'm wondering if we are about to choose the wrong airport?

SNA is really close. Sometimes long beach is one that a persons chosen airline uses and is cheaper. Check for your location what works best, but know the transportation costs before locking yourself in. Especially if the reason for choosing LGB is budgetary.

Not to be contrary here, but we always fly into LGB, and always rent a car. Why? So easy, and so many discounts on car rentals. last trip we got an economy car for 4 days- $90. even with the hotels parking charge of $9 a day we came out ahead of shuttling. Everything is booked, registered and paid ahead. You get off the plane and within a few minutes you're on the road.

Not sure it's contrary. The op said they had a rental car in mind. But that cost can't be estimated by us and the op can easily run through what her trip would cost with a car on her dates.

She specifically asked for help with basic costs on shuttle transportation. Which I shy so many have given that info.

Not everyone wants to drive in Southern California. Not everyone wants to pay to park. Not everyone has a need for a car. We like a car; we go to trader joes for food, if the trip is long enough we go to our weight watchers meeting, etc. we like a car but others don't. Either way, cars are easy to research. :)

The closest airport is SNA, then LGB, then LAX. However the cheapest fare depends on the airport you're leaving from. (For example, from Chicago it's cheaper to fly to LAX, but when I used to live in NYC, flying to LGB was price competitive, too.)

Besides fares, you also need to take into account the availability and cost of your preferred type(s) of airport transfers to and from DLR. Disneyland Resort Express, for example, only serves LAX and SNA. At LGB, you're limited to taxis or pre-reserved shuttles like Karmel (my favorite) or SuperShuttle.

You should also bear in mind the closer the airport, the cheaper the transfer cost. Taxis from SNA and LGB are under $50. Taxis from LAX are closer to $100.

So you kind of have to figure out the calculus of all these things, and choose which options work best for your family and budget. The good news is you only have to figure it out once!

We just returned from DLR and flew in to Orange County/SNA. We opted to take a taxi for the 3 of us and stayed at Embassy Suites South, Garden Grove, the price $35 + tip. Driver was friendly and drive was quick.
When we departed from the Embassy, the front desk arranged for a car. They mentioned it could possibly be a town card or even a limo but a large SUV showed up, very nice & very clean. Driver was friendly and courteous, the fee $45. This to us was a choice decision. We didn't have to wait for the shuttle or make any stops.

We are flying out of Atlanta...we are using Delta skymiles for 2 tickets & paying for 2 tickets. Looks like flying in to LAX, we can get there in the very early afternoon....with SNA, it will be very late afternoon/early evening.

I couldn't get the coupon to work on their website. I made the reservations, got the #, waited an hour and then called to get it applied to our reservations. She was very nice about doing it. Apparently you can't do it on the website - which seems kind of weird to me.

Thanks very much!

I found better times by flying into LAX verses SNA also. Since I am doing a surprise trip and we are staying at the DLH as part of the surprise, I chose to fly into LAX. I also got better airfare prices, however, when I added the transportation costs into the equation, the difference didn't make that big of a deal.

I suggest that you look at the overall price (airfare plus transportation) and then, if it is important, the arrival/departure times that work best for your family and touring plans.
