Transportation between resorts for a split stay question

First visit to WDW in a long time and first time ever doing a split stay. We start our trip at AKL and switch to the Poly mid-way through our trip. I had planned to take DME from/to the airport and not rent a car since there are so many free transportation options at WDW and we aren't park hopping.

What do you think would be the best way to gather our luggage (my wife, me and my 6 yr old) and move to the Poly? I was thinking of a Minnie Van, but don't know if all our luggage would fit. Same problem with a standard Lyft or Uber. I don't know if the WDW busses would allow me to carry several bags on the bus and I don't know if there is a direct bus from AKL to Poly.

What do you folks think? How would you make the trip from AKL to Poly with all luggage?

Thanks!

You can have AKL send your luggage to the Poly for you. They do resort to resort luggage transfers multiple times throughout the day.

This. Just bring the bags to Bell Services and they'll move them for you.

We did have a minor issue with it this December (left the bags at ASMo in the morning, around 10pm at CSR found that they hadn't even brought them to the resort yet). They got it sorted out within the hour, brought our bags to our room and gave us a few anytime fastpasses for the next day. Overall not much of an inconvenience and still better than moving the luggage ourselves.

We are doing the exact same split stay. After it is delivered you have to pick it up from Bell Service at the Poly or call to have it delivered to the room when you are in it. Consider that if you plan to stay out late.

This perfect! Thank you, I had no idea that was an option. So now I can just Minnie Van or bus it over to the Poly.

Are you aware that split stays result in two FP windows? 60+days at AKL (including day of checkout) and 60+ Poly stays. This is a consideration for us as to when to go to AK to get a FP for FOP. Same with dinner reservations.

I kinda wondered how that worked. So I have to get up a 4 AM (west coast) twice! That sucks! Is there any advantage to this I'm missing. I have just a 7 day one park/day ticket so I don't suppose I can book two times the fastpasses for Wednesday (check in/out day between resorts) huh?

When i first heard of people doing a split stay between two resorts, I always wondered how that worked. How did you get from one to the other? Did you move your own luggege? Did it interfere with park time? Etc...

I am wrong, sorry! For two room only bookings: "Two RO Stays. The 60-day FP booking window will open at 60 days before the check-in date of the first RO stay and will extend until the checkout date of the second stay (and potentially beyond). This assumes valid tickets are linked to the MDX account." There are different scenarios:

No, you can't double up on FP+. It has nothing to do with a resort stay. You can only pre-book 3 FP+ per day (in one park) for which you have valid ticket media. You do get the 60 day advantage over offsite guests, but that's your only advantage. The only guests, right now, that can pre-book extra FP+ are those staying CL who pay an extra fee to do so.

Most people, when doing a split stay, stop off their luggage with Bell Services on the morning then leave for a park and spend their day there. At the end of the day, they take Disney transportation to the second resort, and collect their bags. Bags are normally transferred from resort to resort between 2 and 3 pm every day, and should be available to you sometime between 3 and 4 pm.

Keep in mind that you have to be in your room or physically pick them up yourself. I have always just taken a cab and dropped off the luggage in the morning. You can check in, although it’s not likely that your room will be ready, and head to the parks without having to worry about the timing of your luggage availability. I believe that I have read elsewhere that the Minnie Vans do not accommodate luggage.

So does Bell Services have a closing time? We are changing resorts after the first night of our stay so I just figured I would have Bell Services handle the luggage transfer between the two resorts. We won't be getting back from Animal Kingdom until 9:00/9:30 pm. Would this cause any problems for luggage pick up at CSR (our second hotel)?

Bell Services is open 24/7

Although, at the Values, its Luggage Service and they have very limited staff between midnight and 6am.

Thank you so much! We are moving from ASM to CSR so late bag pickup hopefully won't be too much of an issue.

9pm is not late. I've picked up our luggage at the Poly a few minutes after 2am. Not a problem. I didn't have them deliver it since I was right there, but I could have.

It is likely your luggage will not fit in a Minnie Van. The rear stores car seats.
WDW buses do not allow luggage.
There are no resort to resort buses. You need to change buses at a park or Disney Springs.

Luggage is not moved several times a day. It is generally moved between 3 and 5. You should pack anything you may need in a day bag and keep it with you.
