Hi,

I hope someone can help me. I'm visiting Orlando for the first time later this month and will not be having a hire car. Since my original booking I have booked a 4 day Wonder cruise in the middle of the holiday and now I have a problem which I hope you can help with.

I need a car for one day to get me from the Universal area to Port Canaveral, then a car for a day to get me back from Port to WDW.

I have asked on the boards in England, tried booking on the internet and had problems, one of which is the hire company wanting an extra $50 for a one-way rent - is this normal?

There will be just 2 of us, me and DD (21). I did wonder about a taxi / town car but since we disembark quite early I thought we would take the opportunity of travelling down the coast a little before we head back to Orlando.

Many thanks in anticipation - I'm counting on you folks ;) :teeth:

We are so excited, but we just need to sort out this little problem.

I would try doing this. When you leave Universal, pick a car up from Avis Rental Cars. Then drive the car to Port Canavaral and drop it off at the Avis in Port Canavaral, infront of the Radisson. Get a cab to the port (about 5 minutes from there) then get on the ship. When you come back, pick up your car at the Avis in Port Canavaral and drive it back to Orlando. Also a little advice, try renting a Oldsmobile Alero or a Buick Century, that should be roomy enough! Hope this solves your problems!!!

Although the surcharge for a one-way rental is normal, you can often get a good deal via www.hotwire.com
When you go to their site, look for their one-way rental link. They have three companies, and out of the three, Budget is the cheapest for going to Port Canaveral. Be sure to use the link from the Hotwire site because it will automatically put in a discount code.

Thanks so much for the Hotwire link. I've checked it out and it looks very promising - much better than the other sites I've tried. I think my problem may be solved.

Thanks also to the others that took the time to respond.

I knew I could trust you guys to find me a solution.
