transport resort to Port Canavaral

Any ideas to go from Disney resort to Port Canavaral for a cruise. Were told Magical Express does not go from resort to Port. Rather not have a rental car sitting there the entire cruise.

There are car services that will pick you up at your resort and drive you right to the ship, then return to get you at the end of the cruise. But, it isn't cheap. It normally runs about $180-220 r/t. That is usually for a car that will accommodate 4 passengers.
Or, if you don't mind driving, you can rent a car, drop everyone off at the ship,with their luggage and drive to the car rental office. You then return the car, and take their shuttle back to the ship. When you're done cruising, you can take the shuttle back to the rental office, pick up your second rental and head to the ship to get everyone. Or you can have everyone take their bags with them, ride the shuttle and then all go to the rental office.
But this method entails making two different car rentals. And you have to get to the car rental office while at WDW.

DCL does offer a shuttle bus to those staying onsite. I think it runs about $70 pp, roundtrip.

Depends on how many people you have. I've gotten quotes from Mears in the past, who I had expected to be pricey, for a very reasonable flat rate IF there are 5 or more people. For 5 or more passengers it was less than the cruise line's $70RT per person, but it was higher for 4 or fewer passengers when I averaged it out. Not sure of current Mears rates, this was a couple of years ago.

You could take ME back to MCO and get the cruise line's shuttle from there (if not on the Disney cruise) but prices are still in the $70RT per person range. It's an extra step and might or might not work depending on the makeup of your group. With kids or grandparents it's not a very convenient way to transfer.

If it's DCL, then they do have a shuttle to port.

Yes, it does....about $70 pp r/t.

You could take ME back to the airport and then have the cruise line's shuttle (or other car service such as Mears) pick you up from the airport. A lot of times, it is cheaper to pick you up at the airport rather than a location, and the transportation you can arrange through the cruise line will only pick you up at the airport sometimes.

We actually did the opposite. We came off a Carnival cruise and had arranged a Mears shuttle. I don't recall the price, but I remember it being pretty inexpensive. It was a van. It took us from Port Canaveral to the airport, and we caught ME from there. No problems and actually was pretty fast.

It also will not be an issue that you aren't catching a flight.

We rent a car and park at Park-N-Cruise. Winds up costing about the same as what transfers would cost and we get to travel on our schedule.

This company seems to have rates that are comparable with other companies that we are familiar with. I, personally, have no knowledge of this particular company. It's one that I have never seen mentioned here. Will be nice to see if others have used them and what their experiences have been.

We rented a car from Budget it cost $36 including gas for each rental to and from the port.

Dropped the car off at the office by the port and budget has a free shuttle van to the ship that took us and our luggage. Then we did the same thing when the ship returned. Hopped on the shuttle van got the car and drove to WDW.

Easy drive from WDW to the port. Just take some quarters for the tolls. Which are less than $7.00 each way.

** Don't pay to park the rental car at the Park and Cruise lot. Why pay to park a car and to also pay the daily rental rate for the car. Its cheaper to do two one way rentals and in the state of Florida most of the rental car companies DON"T charge the one way rental fee. Budge and Alamo don't I know for sure.

Not always the case. The last time we cruised, I priced out various options....keeping the car the entire time and parking at the port garage, returning the car prior to cruising and rerenting upon departure.
That time, I found that it was only $24 more to keep the car for the entire time, including parking costs!!! It was very nice to get off the ship, cross the street, get into our car and drive away.
But....that will not always be the case. You need to do your homework and run various scenarios.

True. One time we cruised (4-day cruise) it was actually quite a bit cheaper to keep one rental for the duration than to do 2 rentals, even counting the daily parking fee at the port.

And I couldn't agree more with the convenience of having the car right there upon debarkation. The daily parking fee at the port really isn't that bad.

We'd love to do the DCL shuttle, but $70 round trip for a family of 4 or more is very expensive compared to just renting a car.

Factors to consider when making this decision:

- Length of cruise
- Size of family
- Varying rental rates for leaving on, say Thursday as opposed to Sunday.

It's never cost us more than $75 more to park rental at the parking garage. Some people get spa treatmenst, i park my car.

We leave the 'park' suitcases in the trunk and enjoy being able to quickly exit, drive to one of the parks and have a nice chunk of time before we have to head to airport.
