My first posting! We are from England and visiting Disneyworld for the first time next month. We are staying at Port Orleans. Can anyone tell me how best to get from Port Orleans to Fort Wilderness, as I want to go there to do some fishing.

Thanks in advance folks!

Using WDW transportation: Bus to MK, boat to FW.
Fastest: Car or Taxi.

Thanks Tobikaye, you sort of confirmed what I thought in that it's necessary to go via MK using WDW transport. Any idea how much a taxi would be from P.O. direct to F.W.?

Thanks again.

You can also take the boat to DTD then a bus ride to Fort Wilderness.

I think a taxi would be about $7 - $10, it is not that far of a trip between the two.

Just to add- if you take a taxi, it will drop you at the front entrance to Ft. W. you would need to then get on the internal bus to your final destination, which I'm guessing would be near...... The boat dock.

Welcome to the DIS boards!!! You've already received some good info. The one thing I will mention is this...I imagine (although not 100% sure) that the fishing excursions leave from the area by Pioneer Hall and Trails End. If that's the case, it's going to be easier to get a bus to MK and then boat to FtW. The boat drops you right down a path from that area. That might be easier than taking a bus to FtW, which drops you off at the front of the resort, and then you have to take an internal bus to the back area.

There is fishing at many other resorts as well...not sure if you were aware of that. I see a ton of people fishing in the canal between BW and DHS. POR has fishing from the banks of the river as well.

If you just want to fish from the canals and are not doing a boat fishing excursion, you will probably need to go to the Bike Barn near the Meadows which is in the middle of the campground. You will want to take the bus that goes down the center of the campground, but I cannot remember the color right now. Just tell the driver that pulls up to the stop where you want to go and they will help you.

Just the post I was looking for! Does anyone know how long it takes for the entire trip from PO to FW via the bus to MK then the boat to FW? We have a breakfast ADR at 10:30 at Trails End. Wondering how much travel time we should give. Thank you!

not sure about time to MK from PO but I would allow 40 minutes from MK to FW as boat ride is 20 minutes but that allows for wait if you just miss boat. very short walk from dock to Trails End
