Hi, I am new to this forum and wanted to know if someone could help me out in determining the cheapest way to get to either Clearwater beach or Daytona beach from Orlando. Renting a car is turning out to be too expensive and I was wondering whether there's a cheaper way (public transport, etc.) to get there. I will be in Orlando from 25th to 29th Dec with family.

Also, is there anyway to get discounted tickets to the Disney parks?

Thanks!

There is no public transit between the cities. You cheapest bet would be something like Greyhound, but it leaves from downtown Orlando or the other side of Kissimmee, so you would have to pay for getting there, too. (Also, the bus makes several stops, so it takes nearly 4 hours each way.) There is a charter service that does Clearwater day trips that include lunch; it is geared to overseas tourists and costs about $65 per adults and $45 per child.

Unless you are under age 25, you shouldn't have to spend more than about $70 tops to rent a car for 24 hours, even on a weekday. (A weekend day would be much cheaper)

I checked for you ...you could get a compact car through Enterprise for 61 (-a 20% coupon if you have the 2004 entertainment book). With no coupon all costs came to 63 dollars...after coupon you should be at 52. You mention you are going to be with family...does anyone have a car that could drive you or that you could share the rental with. Register both drivers...but maybe it might work out. Or are you visiting friends in Clearwater/Daytona...or is just a matter you want to get to a big beach. If you are visiting someone perhaps they would like to visit you in Orlando. There are not many cars available for the holiday week. You could always call a travel and tourism office for Orlando.
