As it is just DH and myself (kiddos gone) we are taking a non-Disney cruise and disembarking at Cape Canaveral on January 22nd. We have 10 days in a DVC starting that day.
How do we get from the port to WDW? (The DCL express is only available to DCL cruisers - I just called to check.)
Anyone have experience with other transportation options, like shuttles?
Thanks in advance!

I can think of four options off the top of my head:
  • Uber or Lyft -- with just two of you, if you don't have a huge amount of luggage, you could just order UberX or regular Lyft. You can check comparative fares on RideGuru.
  • One way car rental -- this might be your least expensive option and it's an easy drive.
  • Shuttles -- I'm not familiar with the Port Canaveral shuttles, but a simple google search should give you some options.
  • a car service -- again, I've never used one from Port Canaveral, but that's another possibility.

Looks like Avis currently has a one-way rental for $44 plus taxes/fees (total $63.37) for compact through standard cars for that date. That's starting at the Port Canaveral location, which runs a free shuttle from the pier. The drop-off would be the Hilton Lake Buena Vista (search "Lake Buena Vista" on the Avis website).

If you're unfamiliar, the Hilton Lake Buena Vista is across the street from the Marketplace section of Disney Springs. You could drive to your Disney Resort and drop off your luggage. Then, fill up the car at the gas station at Disney Springs before returning it to the hotel. From there, you can walk back to Disney Springs and hop on a Disney bus to get back to your resort.

There are other rental companies at the various Disney Springs Hotels, including Alamo, Dollar, Hertz, Enterprise, and Budget. Avis was the cheapest on January 22nd. It's also the closest rental car location to Disney Springs. I've also personally started/ended at least a dozen one-way rentals at that Avis location over the past 5+ years. I've never had any real problems there.

Another option would be checking with your cruise line. They probably offer transportation back to the Orlando International Airport for a price. There, you could use Disney's Magical Express.

But, I think spending $63 (plus gas and tolls) would be worth not having to go to the airport. Plus, you'd be able to skip the grand tour of multiple Disney Resorts that sometimes happens using Disney's Magical Express.

One way car rental Alamo or National...drop off at either Disney Car Car Center or Dolphin Resort. My guess is that it would be much less expensive than ride sharing services.

If I take disney transportation from the Port to Pop, do they handle the luggage at POP. That is, would the luggage be automatically delivered to my room (similar to MDE from the airport), or would i be handling it myself? Thanks.

How are you getting to the Port to leave on the cruise?

A couple years back we did a cruise on Royal. We flew in the night before and booked a room at the Raddison At The Port and they have a package that includes a one way trip to/from MCO for 2 and you can purchase a shuttle back to MCO post cruise from them very cheap. I want to say the name of the shuttle service the use is something like Cocoa Beach Shuttle and I think it was $50 total for both of us back to MCO. Once back at MCO you could take DME to your resort. You don't need a flight just call DME direct and tell them what time you think you will be at MCO. The direct DME number is (866) 599-0951 Don't call the 407 Disney number as the people at the direct number deal only with the DME.

No, your luggage will go on (under) your bus. It can be checked with Luggage Assisstance if your room isn’t ready yet. You would need to collect your bags on your way to your room or call for deluvery once in your room.

enjoy your vacation!

The cruise line you are on should offer a shuttle service back to MCO ( at a price ) - if you don't want to Uber then I would pre-purchase the shuttle service through the cruise line and since you are staying onsite you have access to ME from MCO to your resort.

You can try a shuttle company. They normally charge a per person fee. You check out these companies: smooth ride transportation, Cocoa beach shuttles or port Canaveral quick shuttles. They tend to be cheaper than Uber/Lyft Or a taxi
