Hi. What are you thought on transition lenses. I've heard mixed reviews but I would really like to get them.
Thanks

See my post below. I have not had enough coffee!

i LOVE my transitions lenses! i don't have to wear separate sunglasses any more! they're dark within a few seconds of me stepping outside, and i don't even notice them changing back when i walk back in the house

I tried them about ten years ago and didn't care for them. They didn't seem to get as dark as sunglasses (maybe thats gotten better), but the bigger negative was they do not work in the car. This I know is still true now. Something about the UV glass they use in windshields.

I splurged recently and bought prescription sunglasses and love love love them.

I have a pair I love, but they aren't great for driving because they don't get very dark in the car (I think due to the uv blockers on the windshield). I love Zenni optical, you should check them out. I've bought numerous pairs of glasses from them and highly recommend them...the prices are amazing!

I love them too. The best part is no changing glasses when going outside. I just ordered them for my DD who just got glasses in April. Didn't think about her usually wearing sunglasses in the summer until she wanted to wear them last week. Went back to Costco and explained that I wanted to get her lenses changed to transitions, and it only cost me the $30 difference from her regular lenses to transitions.:thumbsup2 I was so happy since I expected to have to pay the full amount. Then I had my American Express/Costco check that I used and only paid $7 out of pocket.:woohoo:

I love Costco for glasses. Where else could I get two pairs of glasses for my DD for $200 total?

I don't have any problems with mine staying dark in the car just.

I have worn them for the past 11 years and love them. They say that it takes some time to get used to them, but I took to them right away.

I did get a pair that were very wonky. But the doc gave me the wrong prescription.

I love not having to take glasses on and off (I need them for reading). I highly recommend them.

PS I got my last pair for a quarter of the price I paid at Sams ordering through Zenni.
In fact, I ordered them as a second pair but find that they are my favorite.

What a dork I am! I was thinking progressive!:rotfl:

Anywhoo, I have transition lenses also. I do like them, but if I am going to be in serious sun, I add clip ons. The transition lenses are not quite dark enough.

I really don't like mine. I decided to try them this year since I was told they have gotten so much better than they used to me. My pair really doesn't get dark enough outside, so I have to switch to my sunglasses anyway (I am unusually sensitive to light - all my dad's fault for passing me these light blue eyes). Inside, they sometimes still look a little dark, especially in my office which is surrounded by windows. :3dglasses

Oh yeah, there is something else I don't like about them. When it is cold and sunny outside, it takes FOREVER for the glasses to return to normal when you go inside. I find myself taking them off when it is cold so that I am not walking around a store in the dead of winter with what appears to be sunglasses!

I bought DD transition glasses as a treat a couple of years ago. She loved having them at Disney. :cool2: Unfortunately, she is in various choirs. When the choirs sing outside, she can't have dark lenses. So, she takes them off and squints at the choir director(s). :rolleyes1 I don't think that she will buy them again. :teacher:

I don't like them very much. They don't get dark enough. They don't work in the car. And they take too long to lighten.
I'll be getting a new pair soon and I'm going to get the magnetic shades (clips on but held on by magnets so they aren't noticeable).

I have them because of the damage done to my eyes. We have multiple buildings at work and they are great for that; I couldn't imagine switching to sun glasses every time I have to go to another building. All of my glasses for at least the past 15 years have had them. They have improved a great deal but they will not change in a car. Mine get dark enough for me for regular use but I can't wear them while snow skiing; I need something darker for that.

Uug Muushka, that's why I got rid of mine. I did enjoy not having to switch glasses but last winter it drove me bonkers. Maybe because we had such a harsh winter but a couple of times in Kmart, I swear the employees were looking at me funny because I puffing on my glasses trying to get the darn things to clear up. ;)

I pretty much stick to my contacts with regular cheepy shades now.

I love mine, but they do not work in the car, so I kind of have the best of both worlds. I have frames that come with magnetic "clip on" sun glasses. I use these in the car and leave them in the car, but then I have the transitions for everywhere else.

I love the transitions. Had them on the last 2 pairs of glasses and talked DH into them too. Haven't heard a complaint from him.

I like mine, but like previous posters said I do wish they got dark in the car. But they are great for everything else. If you get them, make sure you get the grey lenses...they get much darker than the brown!!

That is all I wear, but I will say, they aren't dark enough when the sun is very bright & at times they are too dark for inside. I need them for mainly close up, so I don't really need them to drive (only when I am tired). When I am in the car using them, they are not as dark as sunglasses by any means. I have been wearing them for the last 5+ years. I do think my next pair will be regular progressive... at least this way I can change on & off if I want.

I have been told the same thing & have always gotten the grey.. had I not been told it, I would have gotten the brown thinking they would have been darker.. good point that you have brought up..:thumbsup2

My son has them and LOVES them. That is his one demand when he gets new glasses this year. He is legally blind without them so he has to have his glasses on at all times. He is the only kid in (now) 3rd grade with sunglasses on the playground. :lmao: His do change in the car even though we drive a minivan and he is naturally in the back with the tinted windows. They don't get AS dark but they do darken.
