I have been wearing these for about 3 or 4 years. I have an appt later today for an eye exam and can't decide whether to get them again. Although I like the idea they darken automatically, they seem to have yellowed and I understand they don't really do much when driving because of tinted windows? Does anyone here wear them and have an opinion on them? Have they improved over the last couple of years?
Thanks for any input.

I have them. They are great for when I am at wdw or spending a lot of time outside. There really haven't been any improvements.

I have them, but I also have a pair of prescription sunglasses for driving since they don't help with that.

I have them as well. They do darken a little while driving, but I have magnetic clips that make that a mute point anyway.

I really like having them when I walk outside and it is cloudy. It is amazing how much they do protect my eyes when I don't think I need them.

I wear contacts most of the time when I am out but I do love having them. I think they are worth the extra money I have spent.

My husband has had them longer and honestly I never noticed his yellowed at all. His have always tinted to brown (past and current pairs). Mine tint to gray.

They do take a little while to lighten after going indoors but not too bad. They also will darken when I am wearing my magnetic lenses. It is nice to have double protection.

me too.. ( I was just gonna say that too LOL) I do love them and wouldn't get anything else..

Thank you everyone. I am very sensitive to sunlight, maybe the clip-on is what I need. I'll give them another chance. Maybe my vision has worsened since I got these and it's not the lens causing the dullness at all. :headache:

I have them and I really don't like them. They're not dark enough for me outside and I feel like an idiot walking into a Store with dark lenses. I will never get them again.

Jenny:)

I had them on my old glasses, but I didn't get them when I got new ones. I was always getting annoyed when I would go inside and they would still be dark. What I did get on these glasses are lenses that don't get fogged up and don't get as many fingerprints or as much dirt as my old ones. I love that, when I get out of the shower, I can put my glasses on and they're not fogged up from the shower steam.

I've been wearing the light-sensitive lenses since they first came out and wouldn't have any other kind. My eyes are sensitive to glare and the Transitions do the trick within a couple of seconds. I don't usually notice a problem when driving.

Next pair of glasses I am doing what DH did with his last ones: He got the Transitions lenses along with frames that had magnetic polarized sun glasses. He uses the magnetic sun glasses over the Transitions when he is fishing (to see the fish better) or when it is exceedingly bright and uncomfortable. He's been very happy with them. I'd just like the option of the additional protection.

I've been wearing Transitions for several years too, and just last night ordered my new glasses. I did NOT get the Transition coating again because, first of all, they never got dark enough even out in bright sunlight to replace sunglasses; they never got quite clear enough indoors, even when I hadn't been out in the sun for hours; and mine did "yellow".

I have a great pair of a nice, dark sunglasses for when I'm outside. :cool2:

i work for an optical lab and they have improved the trans lenses (they don't yellow as much anymore. but you should ask for "drivewear" lenses. they are specially made to darken a certain amount in the car.

My DH had the same issues and did not get them again. He also did not like the fact that when he would come in from the cold in the winter they were dark and took a long time to lighten. He now has regular glasses with clip on sunglasses.

I should have added that until very recently I would only wear glass lenses. The image in plastic lenses wasn't clear enough for me. My last two pair of glasses were the only ones that were plastic because there was one particular kind that would darken more and have a clearer image. (sorry, don't know the name) They cannot be used with rimless frames because they cannot be drilled for attachment.

Thank you for sharing your experiences. I ended up getting the Transitions again as per the Dr's recommendation. I hemmed and hawed for an hour. Frame prices are totally ridiculous! The new ones for driving were recommended BUT the Optometrist told me that though they work behind the windshield, they retain some darkening indoors. He said you lose 20% of the clarity and cost an additional $150! Not for me. They also recommended the gray vs the brown tint. As far as my loss of vision it was related to the RX according to the Dr, not the transitions. So. I have given them one more chance. If I had read these comments beforehand I may have rejected them. Where does one find the clip-on's? :rolleyes1

I just got new transitions last weekend. I am not pleased with this pair. This new pair is the brown and I just feel like they don't get dark enough for me. My last pair were the gray and they got plenty dark. Oh well, lesson learned. I hop you got the gray. Good luck with them. As far as the clip-on, I don't know where to get them but I am glad you asked because I would like to know, too.

I'll remember that for next time. I love my transitions but they just don' cut it for driving. So, I wear my old prescription sunglasses which isn't the best thing for the eyes.

Yes, I ordered the gray, so I am anxious to see the difference. I'll post when I get them ( one week to 10 days)

Hopefully someone will let us know about the clip-ons!

most offices should be able to get the clipon. we get ours from a company called 1-800-clipons. they are not magnetic. they attach using little clips. the magnetic ones don't work on all frames.

we take a picture of your glasses and some measurements and they make them specifically for you. i don't think they do direct sales though. but you should be able to call some shops in your area and ask if they make 'custom clipons'. they run about $50-70 or so. but they are totally worth it.

Update.

I am now using the gray Transition Lens and so far so good, but they are very new. When I put the new pair against the old, in the same lighting conditions, clearly the older (brown) lens had yellowed significantly. No wonder my clarity was so poor! I haven't tested the darkening feature just yet.
Any other tips or experiences?
