Can u tell me about transition lens? Like them hate them? Color preference? My DH and I are getting new glasses, both new to glasses. I'm getting progressives as my near is worse but my distance is minimal. I most likely will wear them not all the time bc of the that, mainly outdoors, like to garden, bike ride, kayak, etc., watching tv, computer. I'm thinking of getting transitions as they are free upgrade for us. Do they stay clear in the inside? I get migraines and have dry eyes which are always sensitive to light and do realize they don't work in a car. May use clip ons or just my good polarized maui jims for car. Which color, gray or brown? I think I like the look of brown but want them dark enough to actually work. Are they close to sunglasses? They are also putting in antiglare. Thanks for any info! :thumbsup2

I had transitions years ago, didn't like 'em coz they transitioned under a lamp at night.

I have worn transitions ever since I went into bifocals and couldn't wear contacts any longer. I have the grey, my husband has brown.

They now change very quickly (older versions were slow). They get fairly dark but it will take a minute for them to reach their darkest. I no longer bother with other sunglasses as they get dark enough for me. They clear rapidly when coming indoors.

Love mine. Have had them for years. I have the grey/black. The only issue I have with them is going from darkness (inside) to bright sunshine (outside). I have this issue at our local Houlihan's. It's like a cave in the restaurant and stepping outside is a complete shock, but it doesn't take long for the glasses to adjust. Oddly enough, I've never had the opposite problem of them staying too dark too long when I go from bright sunshine into darkness inside. I also have the anti-scratch, anti-glare coatings and Cryzal lenses.

My daughter wears transition lens and we love them! Hers are grey. They seem to change fairly quickly and are completely clear inside. The only time they start to change inside is if she is standing near a window with sunlight streaming in. Regular incandescent and flourescent light does not cause them to shift.

I would probably caution against them though if you live in the Southwest or any other area that gets a lot of strong sun year round. My mother wears transition lenses and lives in New Mexico. I've noticed that hers seem to have a permanent shading to them.

I had some perhaps five years ago. I did not like them and when my prescription changed I went back to two separate pairs (one for "clear" and one for sun).

My biggest beef with them is I never felt like they got dark enough in the sun. I am in Florida and always felt as if I was still squinting in the sun, something I never experience with my super-duper dark and polarized sunglasses I have now.

I have them and they are ok, my pet peeves are I don't find they get dark enough and they don't change if you are in a car..... other than that they are good, beats not haveing to drag along a 2nd pair around.

As for color, that will depend on your frame color, get something that compliments the frame. :)

Was wondering also if the gray were darker than the brown? I was looking online for pics of them when they were transitioned, the color of the lens in brown and gray. Anyway thanks for the input!

I'm also wondering if putting anti-scratch or glare would keep them from darkening more? Thought I read that. Anyone with any experience with that? Thanks all! Also what is Crizal?

My kids both have them & like them. They seem to transition easy & I like that they don't have to keep up with 2 pairs of glasses. They loved their sunglasses before they got glasses so it made sense.

I got these --> ( tenspex.com/geh4613.htm ) about three months ago from that store, with transitions lenses in them (gray) and put a Crizal coating in them.

If you go to that page and scroll down to where it says "Would you like Anti-Reflective (AR) coating in your lenses?" click right underneath it where it says "show me what this means" and they tell you what AR coatings do and what crizal coatings do. :cool2:

I am the same way. They are okay. For me, that's it.

I bought them in hopes I wouldn't be changing from my prescription glasses to prescription sunglasses all the time. No such luck. I change them so often I have broken my shell case.

Would I get them again? Probably not. I don't "dislike" them, but they aren't exactly what I thought they would be. I should have known, I was warned here on the DIS, but hope springs eternal as they say. :)

I have transitions lens and I love them. I don't know how I did without them before. They change either way fast enough for me. They do not however change in the car.

Ditto!! My only complaint is also that they don't change in the car. I sometimes will take them off and hold them up to the window where the sun is and they will change for a little while. Ours are the brown color. We asked when we were picking them out last year what color we should get and the lady said that they coordinate it with the color of your glasses.

i got them when they first came out and didnt like how long it took to go back when id head inside. i recently got them again about a yr and a half ago. they are much quicker now and i have the grey. i do like them, but in pics not so much!

after being at the world last year and being in line at the food court at wl i noticed a little girl about a yr older than my own with them. i inquired about them to the dad cus our own dd wears glasses and i had never thought to get them for her. he said she did wll with them. so when dd was due for a change in lenses(once a yr, yikes) we broke down and got them for her this past january. i was worried about how shed do getting used to them esp since her vision is poor anyways due to her cp. esp getting them in the winter with the snow on the ground. thankfully she did fine! now i dont feel so bad that she doesnt have a pair of cool disney sunglasses like her brother does. and her eyes are protected.
