I get about half the info on transfers...
I want to add a day or 2 to existing reservations but need a better understanding before going forward.
If I wanted to get transferred points for use in Dec '09 and again in Jan '10 what points should I be looking to secure? (year, month)
Now that the point charts have changed I will be in need of this service on a regular basis. If I can ever figure it out!!

The transferred points must be in the correct use year for your vacation dates.

Best example is to use a summer date. Suppose you wanted something middle of June, 2010. If you got points from someone with a February Use Year month, then they would need to be 2010 points because they would be good for any vacation 2/1/10 thru 1/31/11, which covers your desired June 2010 dates. But if you got someone with points from an October Use Year Month, they would need to be their 2009 points since that would be good for any vacation 10/1/09 thru 9/30/10, which again covers your desired June 2010 dates.

If you need to make a reservation prior to the 7-month window, then the points must have a home resort for the resort you wish to reserve. If you won't be making your reservation until within 7 months, then the transferred points can be from any home resort.

Now specifically to answer your question, for a December 2009 reservation, points would need to be UY2009 points regardless of the use year month.

For a January 2010 vacation, again all points would need to be UY2009 points regardless of the use year month. This is because there is no such thing as a January Use Year.

Hope this helps

Here is a connected but slightly OT question.

I've been looking on the R/T board over the last few days and seems like EVERYBODY is wanting to rent, and nobody wants to transfer. More troubling, it seems like most of these people have very low post counts.

There was one poster whose 1st post was trying to rent points. :scared1:

I understand that many of these folks were trying to get rid of developer points, and the 1 transfer/year rule has curtailed transfers, but...

I was really surprised that it was nearly impossible to find a transfer. What gives????

PS - I think Sis has backed out, so I don't need transferred points anymore.

Since Disney has restricted members to only one transfer per UY, members don't want to use it up for small transfers or they don't trust the process. Another big reason is that members who transfer are not allowed to receive money for their points according to the DVC rules. Not many folks want to just give points away.

Hmm. I didn't know that. Thanks!

It's a rule that isn't followed. Transfers for cash are done all the time...

If no one is offering a transfer on the rent/trade board, you can still post asking for one. I've tansfered points to another member that way after seeing their request.
