The person I'm going with wants to go on the Haunted Mansion ride at WDW. However due to the limitations of his wheelchair he can only board from one side of his chair and this ride might not be possiable. So if the wheelchair is line up for a sliding board transfer what side do you board from to get on to the ride...

If I remember correctly, you would need to slide to the left to get into the ride. And you would need to bring your own transfer board as there is not one provided at this ride.

If he cannot transfer, I believe he may be able to experience the queue (which is very cool and interactive) and the Stretching Room.

WDW people - please correct me if I am wrong!

if its slide towards left side we can do it. we planning to bring our slide board anyway...

You would load from the left side of the vehicle, so he would have to get out of his chair on the right side, that being said I am not sure that a transfer board could be used on that particular ride due to the way the doombuggy is made. Hopefully someone that uses a w/c and transfer board can give you more information as to whether its possible or not. I hope it works out for both of you, Disney is very accessible for the most part.

It's like getting into the drivers side of a car. So the wheelchair is on the left side of the doombuggy and you transfer right.

Unless you do a pivot type of transfer. Then I guess you can go either way.

Off the top of my head here is how the major transfers work.

Pirates-straight in. There is no room to turn the wheelchair to a side.

Splash Mountain and Space Mountain-Passenger car side transfers but they go almost to floor height so it's more of a floor to chair transfer.

Big Thunder Mountain- Passenger car side and they have a special car that makes the transfer easier.

Spaceship Earth - Passenger car side with a special vehicle that has a wider opening.

Mission Space - Passenger car side. The transfer is up a bit and the opening is narrow.

Test Track - I think driver side and they have a special loading area to make the transfer easier.

Soarin - This one you can approach from either side but you are transferring into a forward facing seat. The seat is at about 24 inches high.

Maelstrom- I think passenger car side but it's also floor height.

Star Tours - I usually go in and transfer as a drivers side but I think you go go through and turn around to do the opposite transfer. The seat is a bit low and you are transferring to the front facing seat.

Rock and Roller Coaster - Passenger car side. There is a special ride vehicle that I use with extra hand holds and a fold down side. The fold down side doesn't work for me since it makes the transfer too low but the the extra grips are nice.

Tower of Terror - Front transfer and a little to the side if you go forward to the right. A longer amount to the side if you go forward left.

Expedition Everest - Driver car side with a special vehicle to make the transfer easier.

Dinosaur - Driver car side. A tough transfer and a bumpy ride.

Primeval Whirl - I think passenger car side.

Here is a picture of the transfer Doombuggy. It has a larger opening on the side to make transfers easier.

You can request that they turn off the moving conveyor belt for transferring. I need to do this every time, and it's not a problem for employees to handle. Also, just a personal note, since I struggle to enter/exit rides, I will often ask if I can ride again a second time without getting off. The answer is usually that I can ride again, if another handicapped person is not waiting to take my spot on the ride.

He's transferring himself fom a wheelchair, so they will turn the moving walkway off on Haunted Mansion.

Be sure to ask for the ADA (also called transfer assist ) ride car. You would think they would automatically give it to someone transferring from a wheelchairs, but that isn't always a given.
