Transferring Resorts

I thought we had all the answers... but.....

We have reservations at Poly starting on 11/02, the first night of Value Season. We always plan to arrive the day before and stay at another resort, then get up early to check in to our resort VERY early in the morning... usually between 6-7am, so we be first in line to get the best room available for the rest of our stay. We are considering making a separate reservation at the Poly for just the 1st night (not value rate) then checking out/in in the morning to avoid transferring resorts. Has anyone else done this? If we end up with a good room the first night, can we just stay in the same room with a new reservation? If we want a better room, will they transfer us? How early does Disney transportation run in November, or should we just plan to catch a cab if we transfer hotels and let Disney transfer the luggage? (we usually let them transfer the luggage). We are also considering Swan for the first night with the Nurse rate, but not sure if luggage can be transferred from there since they're not actually a Disney Property.

Unless you want to try a different hotel, why not just have one reservation at the Polynesian and if you don't like the room ask to be moved. Chances are you will like it and then you don't have to hassle with moving or checking in twice.

Thanks for the response, but if we start the reservation on the 1st, we will be charged the higher, non-value season rate for the entire 13 nights. That's why we need 2 reservations for the stay... one for 11/1 and one for 11/2-13. Surely some smart DISer has figured out the best way to do this....
