When calling what option do you use if you want to transfer points to someone else?

Thanks.

The same option as making a reservation, you both need to be on the line and remember, you can't transfer points and receive money for it.

My sister lives across the country from me. What do you mean by online at the same time. I thought I would be able to give member services her membership number and they could transfer the points. Do we have to be in the house together?
Thanks

Can you make a 3 way phone call? MS needs to speak to both of you to verify that you aren't stealing her points.

We don't use transferred points anymore so things may have changed. Did it once and never again.

I was planning on calling and telling them to take my points and add them to her account. I can imagine they would need to talk if someone was requesting points transferred from someone else. Maybe not if you are the one calling and sending them?
Thanks.

Please let us know how it goes, updated info is valuable.

Good luck! pixiedust:

I've transferred points into someone else's account a couple years ago. At that time, all I needed their membership number and name. I had also read that I needed their address, but MS never asked for it. I was the only person on the call. Note that the person you are transferring the points to may have to call MS to verify the points are in their account because if the use years are different, they cannot see them online (or at least that was how it was a few years ago).

So what you're saying is that transferred points, if the same UY as other points in the account, can be seen and used online. Is this correct?

You do not both need to be on the line, only the person who is transferring the points. You will need the other person's DVC account number and details.

Transferred points cannot be seen online at all.

If the transferred points are from your same home resort AND your same use year, you will be able to see and use them online. If not, you will have to call MS to use them for a reservation.

Transferred points retain their original home resort & use year identification.

When you call MS, use Option 1.

You do NOT need a 3-way call. MS used to require name and address in addition to the member number, but seem to no longer ask for the address. You will definitely need the name of a member on the deed and the Membership number - this is so that the points go into the correct membership. Transferring points is a final transaction and cannot be reversed later. They will provide a confirmation number and your sister will need to call MS to verify that the points are in her account.

We have had many posts stating the if the points are the same Use Year and Home resort they will show online, but I'm not sure whether that is true any longer. The last I asked MS, I was told that transferred points are put into a 'virtual' account and can only be "seen" and/or used by calling MS. It would be nice if they could still be seen and used online, but that is contrary to my most recent conversation with DVC. Hopefully if the Use Year and Home Resort are the same they will just put them into the accepting member's same Use Year and not into a 'virtual' account.

You can transfer from/to either the current or next Use Year for either your account or the accepting account. If you are both still in your 2015 Use Year, points from 2015 or 2016 (or even both) may be transferred into the other member's account (even on the same phone call). Members are allowed one transfer into or out of an account per Use Year. The transferred points will retain their original Home Resort status and Use Year even if the Use Month is different with their "new" account.

Transferred points may be banked for an additional year's use but may not be borrowed to make a reservation for dates prior to their Use Year. If you are now in your October, 2015 Use Year and accept a transfer into your October 2016 Use Year of same Use Year points - those points could not be used for a reservation prior to October 1, 2016 as that would require borrowing the points.

Good luck with your transfer! :)

It may have changed. I have transferred points many times. Last year all you needed was the other person name and membership number. But when i did it a couple months ago, we both had to be on the phone with a 3-way call. Also i used to be able to link 2 reservations (same room, 2 memberships), with one member on the phone. Now they want both members on the phone just to link and unlink the rooms. This happened twice already this year. I don't know if something recently changed or what?

I just did a transfer again on Thursday and all I needed was their name and membership number. And in my case, I only gave the membership number and Member Services gave me the name (and I confirmed that was the correct person). It may be possible to get a MS representative that asks for more (as some people have reported), but that was not my case (on my prior time a few years ago or this last Thursday).
