Am I right in thinking the easiest way for DVC members to "borrow" points from other members is to have them transferred to your points account. This way, the only inconvenience to the lender is a phone call to MS followed by a signed letter confirming the transfer. This way seems for simple than the lender booking the stay on behalf of borrower - or am I completely missing something?? Are there disadvantages of transferring the points??

There are disadvantages but now that transferred points can be banked, there are less issues than previously. Disadvantages I can think of include that you cannot transfer borrowed points, MS computers apparently have a glitch that doesn't let you use the transferred points until your use year and you cannot borrow them into your earlier use year. The biggest issue is the one about not getting the full 12 months availability of the points. I know what the rules say but it's been reported that when some transferred points, they weren't allowed to use them unti their use year opened up. Lets say you transferred Feb points into an April use year, you could only use them for stays starting in April. Since this is contrary to the written rules, I'd sure make a fuss but why complicate your life if you have the choice not to.

Another issue is limitations on transfers per use year. Under latest rules you can apparently transfer out from your account as many times as you want per year or, alternatively, transfer into your account as many times desired, but you cannot both transfer out and transfer in during the same year. Thus, the person you are seeking points from may not want to do a transfer if they have any reason to beleive they may receive a transfer from elsewhere during the year. When a member makes a ressies using his own points but puts the ressie in another's name, that does not count as a transfer of points.
