Here's my issue:

-Preferred view reservation I want totals 431 points...currently not available so I would have to waitlist.

-If the waitlist came through, I would borrow 2010 points thus I would have 355 leaving me 76 points short.

If I transfer in 76 points from someone, what use year would they have? My 2009 or who I got them from? Also, if the waitlist never comes through, the 2010 points would stay 2010 as the borrow transaction would never have happend? Correct?

Also if the waitlist doesn't come through could I bank the transfer points at the same time as my 2009 points?

Please help! Thanks.

You would need to use transferred points with the same UY as yours.

You can bank transferred points, but there are banking deadlines, just like your banking deadlines.

Borrowing is a final transaction. Once borrowed they cannot be unborrowed.

You need transferred points with a UY that will allow you to book the reservation without borrowing those points. They do not need to be the same UY as yours, but if you want to use the home resort window to book, they need to be the same home resort.

If you can provide more info on your UY and the time when you want to vacation, we can provide more help on UY for transferred points which will be useful for that stay. -- Suzanne

The points that are transferred retain their original UY and need to be banked accordingly. Remember that transfereing points is permanant and unused transfered points cannot be "transferred back" to the original contract.

I have a Febuary use year and we are looking to go November 21 to Novmeber 28....a 2BR and a studio. 431 points for the preferred views and 365 for the standard view. I thought that I would have a better chance of the preferred views coming through on the waitlist then the standard....

Looks like that is Thanksgiving week, so your best bet would be to get a transfer of points for the resort at which you want to stay so you can book as soon as possible. Of course, if you are still looking to transfer at 7 months, any resort will then do.

As to UY, if you transfer this month (i.e., Jan, while still in your 08 UY), you can receive Dec 08 points, otherwise a Dec UY is out. I understand you can't receive a transfer of 08 points while you are in your 09 UY. Dec 09 is too late as the points can't be used until Dec 09 and cannot be borrowed for a Nov reservation.

You can get any other 09 UY (except Dec as noted above). So, Feb 09, Mar 09, Apr 09, June 09, Aug 09, Sep 09 and Oct 09 all work. For example, if you receive Oct 09 UY points, they are good for stays from Oct 09 to Sept 10.

If you get the transfer and don't end up using the points, you can bank the transferred point into the next UY. To be safe, try to bank prior to the standard banking deadline for the UY for those points. For example, if you get Oct 09 points, you should bank them by May 31, 2010.

There have been reports of MS allowing transferred points to be banked AFTER the normal banking deadline, but I personally have never tried this and I haven't heard any reports of this happening recently.

Best of luck -- Suzanne
