Transferring points

Hi,
I am purchasing 160 points at AKV, from Disney. However, next summer I will need more points. I can’t afford to purchase more points so I thought I might see about transferring points into my account from someone. However, I am unclear about how that works. Do the points keep their home account or do they become my home account? When do the points expire, base on when they are transferred in or based on the use year of the person transferring them or based on my use year? Thanks for any help with this.

:wizard: :)

Transferred points are supposed to retain their original Use Year and Home Resort status - so if you want them for a reservation at 11 months you should make sure they come from your Home Resort.

Ttransferred points may also be banked.

I own SSR w/ Aug UY, my son ended up having to buy into AKV, no more points at SSR, if he wants me to secure him a spot at SSR when we are there and transfers his points to me, can I use them to make a reservation at 11 months? He will have AKV as his home and a different UY then me? Or will I have to book mine at 11 months and another for him at 7 month window?

AKV points cannot be used to make a reservation at SSR 11 months in advance. In this case, if he wants a reservation at SSR using AKV points there is no advantage in transferring the points to your account since he can make his own reservation at 7 months.

If you have enough points, you could make all of the needed reservations at SSR 11 months ahead and your son can still transfer the points into your account. At 7 months you can try to swap out the points (as long as there is no waitlist) and your AKV points would be returned to your account.

Good luck! :)

I thought that I read somewhere that when you transfered points it was hard for Disney to see where they came from. My question is if I transfered points into my account, could I still use the 11 month window to plan a vacation at my home resort, verses the home resort they came from.

Thanks

that was sometimes true several years ago. supposedly the computer system was upgraded around 2006(?)

the policy is that the home resort window follows the transferred pts and i wouldn't bet on being able to sneak one by MS at this point...

We transfered points into our account for the first time. They have the same UY and home resort as they had before they were transfered. They do not show up on the DVC web site when you login. You have to call MS to get the info on them. When talking to MS about these points he used the phrase Virtual Contract:sad2: Other than not showing up on the web site they worked perfectly for making our reservation 11 months out for the BC. Even though the transfered points are on a virtual contract MS can still see it and know what the UY and home resort is just like a real contract.

Thanks, It is good to know some who has done it recently. I guess I need to make sure to transfer points that are from my home resort.
