Questions about transferring points:

1. I have December use year. I was told by Member services that I can only transfer in the same use year. I can't transfer in anyone's 2008 points until Dec 1,2008. Is this correct?

2. Can you bank transferred points?

3. My friend has Dec 2008 points, do they need to wait till Dec1,2008 to transfer their points to me?

Thanks for the help. I am new at this.

I'm not really sure what you are asking. You can transfer in points from other UYs. Friends of our tranferred points to us and they have a Feb UY while ours is Oct. Transferred points retain their UY and home-resort status.

If you're asking if you can only transfer in points that are the same year as yours then I don't think that is correct. The points that were transferred to us are Feb. '09 points but they were transferred last August.

You are only allowed one transfer in or out per UY.

2. Can you bank transferred points?
Yes, transferred points can be banked, but banked points cannot be transferred.

This was not the case for us.

Thanks for the help. I am new at this.

Hope that helped.

I have transferred my 06 UY points into someones 07 UY points, but it did require a manual override. I would think if it required an override they could say it was not possible.

I just recently closed on a contract that has too few points to do much with for the next couple of years so I am planning on doing some transfers. I specifically asked Member Services if I could transfer points into my account from someone else's NEXT use year (i.e. that member doesn't even have the points available in their account yet). The CM I spoke to said that that was possible. I was actually going to post to see if anyone else was told this (from reading the boards it seems tough to know when you are getting the right info from MS unfortunately). Hope it's true - that would work really well for me. So (to add to OP's theme) has anyone ever actually transferred their future points to someone?

This year I needed some extra points and transferred in someone's 08 points before they had actually got them, they are Dec 08 points. We then found out that we needed more points for a trip March 09. I made arrangements to transfer in someone's Feb09 points. Both of these transactions took place less than 12 months apart.

The rule is one transfer per use year. This activity demonstrates that point. I know it's confusing.:confused3

So you can transfer in or out points that have not been received yet. You can actually do more than one transfer per calendar year or 12 month period. The points retain their "identity" meaning if they were Feb'09 SSR points, they stay that way.

As the other poster stated, transfered points can be banked, but banked points cannot be transferred.

Keep track and be sure you identify with the "seller" the identity of the points you are looking to obtain.:thumbsup2

In November of 2007, I made arrangements to transfer in another member's 2009 pts into my 2009 year. We both had June use year, but she had to wait until June 2008 in order to transfer the 2009 points into my 2009 year.

I did not want them in my 2008 year, as I had plenty and wanted to be able to bank them and have use of them until May of 2011.

It has worked out great. I am using some and banking some.

When transferring future points, you need to remember that transferred points cannot be borrowed. In Sept 2007, I received a transfer of April 08 UY points. I could not use them for any reservation prior to April 08. I ended up banking most of them for a reservation for next May, 2009. -- Suzanne
