Transferring Points Question

If I want to buy points (say 80 pts) from someone and have them transferred to my account can you only transfer points from the same resort type?

My home is SSR. If I find someone interested in transferring 80 points to me and their home resort is OKW is that OK?? Can I use the points for a ressie at GF for 2 nights, if GF is available of course??

I have never looked into tranferring points, but at the rate I am using our SSR points I will be borrowing each year for the next 50 years (yes I am thinking about an add-on)!! Just trying to think of a clever way to get 40-80 points without borrowing anymore from 2006.

You can have points from any resort transferred into your account. If you are within the 11 month window, the points can be used at whatever resort the owner bought at, but once you hit the 7 month window, they can be used anywhere. As for GF, yes, you can use them for that, although I can't imagine why you would want to use your points that way, when you could go thru CRO and pay cash. Your best use of DVC pts is thru DVC.

I was looking at 2 nights at GF and calculated room rate vs. points. Even at $10 a point the point cost was cheaper by $30 ($420 cash vs. 39 pts each night). Unless there is a special room rate for DVC members I don't know about. Is there?? We have always stayed at DVC Resorts even before we rented points or bought into DVC (yes we actually paid rack rate the first year down - ouch)!!

Couple of quick comments:

Although transferred points are SUPPOSED to retain the use year and home resort of the person you get them from in actuality that is not always the case. In fact more often than not (from what I have read on these boards) they end up becoming the use year and home resort of the person who gets the transfer. This was my experience btw. I got OKW points with August UY, and these became BWV with December UY when they were transferred to my account (yes BWV is my home and december is my uy).

As for DVC pts for the GF-you'd do better money wise if you kept an eye open for codes on mousesavers.com. If you have an AP even better, but there are codes for the general public there too.

I have started scanning the boards this morning to learn all about codes.
Like I said we have always stayed at DVC Resorts, so I have never had to look into Disney Hotels - whole new adventure.

I have ressies at SSR already, but thought it would be fun for Mom and I to stay at GF for 2 days since we are leaving the guys(DH's and my DS) home and having a girls only vacation (little WDW for Mom and I before our big family - all girl Disney Cruise)!! I thought GF would be a great surprise for her. I'll keep looking for those codes!!
