Transferring points - Help, can I do this?

Hello everyone,

I have no interest in morphing points so please don't flame me. I am trying to honestly take a transfer of points so I can bring my parents to WDW with us and not pay cash. However, I am on a waitlist for a studio for a couple of nights and may get some or none.

Say someone transfers to me points that expire Nov 30 and I am staying Nov 1 to 5. Then the waitlist never materializes and I can't use the points to book the studio room. Can I "plug" those points into my existing reservation for a 2 bedroom, thereby freeing up points that I can use later this use year or bank?

Again, I have no interest in morphing these points. If you don't want to start another morph war by answering my question, please pm me.

Thanks!

I think you should be able to accomplish that with a call to MS asking them to realocate the transfered points to the existing ressie, and take current points that can be banked out of that ressie. It will be a hand operation, but they SHOULD be able to do that. If the person you get at MS can't do it, ask for a manager.

I don't think you can since there probably would be a waitlist for the days that you want to use the tranferred points.

Essentially, MS has to do a cancel and rebook - if the transferred points were not available when the original 2 bedroom reservation was made, it would defeat the purpose of the 11/7 month booking rules to allow the substituiton if there is a waitlist. If some of the days do not have waitlist, MS will likely allow you to do it.

I assume that you have no points available to borrow if the waitlist comes through and that there are no studios available for cash. Too bad, booking for cash if you are out of points seems a lot easier than transferring points and not being able to use them.

Best wishes -

Ditto... Borrow if you can, cash if it works, or... rent? Carefully!

Unfortunately there are many variables that you just can't control or know in advance. You know what the rules say but in reality, the points transferred in will likely take on all of the qualities of your regular points. And they can be banked if you want. I don't even think the banking windows have been applied to transferred points but that could be hit or miss as well. You could certainly sub any of the transferred points into your existing reservation for days no wait listed but likely not for any days on a wait list.
