I haven't come across this in the forums before.

I'm an owner at BLT. If I'd like a hard-to-snag Christmastime booking at VWL, chances are they'll all be taken before my 7-month window opens. Is it permissible to find a VWL owner to transfer the required number of points to so that that member can make my booking at the 11-month window? This is assuming the member is OK using their one-time-a-year transfer on this. Will they be able to use those transferred BLT points at the 11-month window?

It would be the opposite. They will need to transfer their points into your account. Points keep their home resort and use year. If you transferred points to another member, the do not turn into VWL points...

Oh, OK. I understand now. But then I couldn't, in turn, "pay" them for the booking by transferring my points to them, because of the one-time-a-year transfer rule.

I could certainly, however, transfer my points to them, and then they could use their home resort points to book my stay, no?

If you accept a transfer of VWL points into your account, they will be your points to use as you wish. The other member will no longer control those points in any way. The same goes if you transfer BLT points to the account of another member. You could transfer BLT points from the 2012 Use Year and accept a transfer into your 2013 Use Year but are otherwise governed by the once-per-Use Year transfer policy (you could not transfer your points to another member and accept points from that member during the same Use Year).

As noted, transferred points will retain their original Use Year and Home Resort status. If you can find a VWL member willing/able to transfer their points to you, you would be able to make a reservation at 11 months using those points at VWL.

Yes, that would work or you could transfer your 2012 points to them and they could transfer their 2013 points to you.

The challenge you will face is finding another member willing to transfer their points in exchange for accepting transfer of your points. It may be better to consider finding a VWL member willing to make a cash transfer to you.

Good luck! :)

I've seen variations on this from time to time. Options would be to reserve for each without transferring or to transfer points. Due to the once a UY transfer rules, you'd have to use different UY to do a transfer in each direction. The problem with this approach (trading reservations without transferring) is that you're still at the whim of the other member plus the one that travels second has more risk. The problems with doing 2 transfers are that you'd have to do one now and then wait for the second and again, the second party has more risk. Personally I'd either take my chances at 7 months or pay for a one way transfer for the needed home resort. This is one of the reasons why having too many points can be a bad thing.

WebmasterDoc and Dean,

Thanks for explaining. I learned also. You both state it well.
