Transferring ownership to a trust

Specific question for those who have owned a DVC contract, and at some point later transferred the ownership from directly in your name into a trust which you have control of.

Once this goes through the county and is acknowledged, is there any sort of gap in ability to use your points or book while Disney is processing the change? Did you find yourself needing to re-register your DVC login or anything? Or does it just seamlessly occur behind the scenes in a way you don't really notice?

My experience with this approx. 18 months ago was reasonably smooth. It took Member Administration about 2 weeks to update our membership after I emailed them the updated deed from the OC Comptroller website. There was a typo in how our information was entered vs. what was on the deed, so it took an extra day or two for them to fix that. Otherwise, everything on my account remained as it had been previously.

It's worth noting that I waited to make this update when we didn't have a pending reservation. I've seen mixed experiences from people who've had no problem with existing reservations when updating their deed, and others who were explicitly told that there cannot be a pending reservation—or worse, had their reservation cancelled by Disney without warning. You may prefer to wait until you don't have anything on the books, or at least get written confirmation from Disney ahead of time so you're covered.

Thank you -
We waited until we didn't have anything "soon" for this exact reason - my intuition just told me something would go wrong if I did this a month out or something.
I'll just keep watching it and hope they don't cancel us at just the right time we can't get our February dates again, which I don't anticipate being an issue anyway.

If you're interested in saving a little $$, check out this thread (if you haven't already). I used the guidance here to update the deed on my own and was able to get the whole process completed in less than a month from start to finish.

That is an awesome amount of information. I will probably do that if I were to do something like this again. For a first time, I had gotten a recommendation about a year ago on an office in Florida who took care of three contracts for $325, and me not having to worry I would mess anything up. Somehow it took me until we got home from the most recent trip to finally bother sending it all back.
