Transferring other timeshares into DVC?

Dh and I were talking with my parents over the holidays about timeshares. DH and I own 250 points at BWV.

My parents own 6 weeks (Jan to mid-Feb) of Interval timeshare in Aruba. Mom and Dad offered us one week ... and of course I want to transfer that week into DVC so I can rent a Grand Villa and surprise Mom for her 65th.

So question is ... as a DVC owner can I combine that Interval week with my points?

Thanks!

Hi Jen,

We are Interval members as well as DVC members. I understand what you are asking but there isn't a way to combine the Interval week with your DVC points to upgrade the room size.

You can trade into DVC with an interval week but I've only seen 2 bed, 1 bed, or studios available and mostly in off seasons. I don't think DVC gives Interval any 3 bedroom inventory.

What we try to do is combine a DVC week gotten through Interval and then add on days to that traded week with our DVC points to prolong our trip.

Good luck with your plans!

Thanks for the feedback jmatias ... it can get confusing with all these options.

I think that we might just pull some of next year's points ... and save the Interval week for another trip :)

May I ask which timeshare did you use to trade into Disney? What size unit did you trade and the season? Which villa size did you get at DVC and when did you get in? I own a few Marriott's and I thought of doing this very thing, but when I do a search on II I never find any of the DVC resorts. Well maybe once I saw a studio at OKW, and a one bdrm SSR, but that's all I have seen and I have been looking for months. The couple of times I saw a DVC it was in September reservation.

You cannot piggy back your points to an exchange to get a larger unit. What you could do is get a studio and 1 BR and TRY to have them combined. Two exchange fees, two $95 resort services fee and the like. I'd go to Aruba or rent out the week.

My brother-in-law traded his Marriott 2BRM week for a 2BRM week at Boardwalk this year. I thought Marriott accepted trades into Boardwalk, Beach Club, WL, and OKW.

Marriott members that choose to be, are regular II members. Other than having internal trading preferences (and costs for Marriott to Marriott), their trading with II is outside the Marriott realm. 2 BR units do become available but are less common, especially with the newer DVC exchange system. Most are very off time or pulled with an ongoing search, those you'll never see simply show up on the website no matter how often you look. Marriott members can request anything in the II book, unlike DVC members.
