I have never flown through a NY airport before so I am hoping someone on this board can give me some info. My DMIL must transfer airports on her way to Orlando. Has anyone used the bus service to go from JFK to LGA? I see on the web site it costs $13. Does she have to buy a ticket inside or does she just pay the driver? Anyone able to explain the procedure?
Thanks!

Wow. There are plenty of flights from JFK to Orlando... does she really have to do that? You're talking at least 3-4 hours from getting off one plane, clearing customs (I see you're in Canada), getting luggage, getting to ground transportation, 1 hour within that just to get from one airport to the other, then checking in again and clearing security...

As for the buses, I believe you can walk up - the buses you're talking about run on a regular schedule. I just would rethink the whole idea if your DMIL hasn't had experience with it. NOT the way to get introduced to NYC airports!

Good luck with whatever you decide!

I agree with the previous poster. Isn't there any flights that she doesn't need to transfer to a different airport?

That just sounds like a disaster waiting to happen.

Unfortunately, she didn't have a lot of choice as it was booked through airmiles without much lead time. They told her she didn't have to worry about her luggage that it would continue to Orlando and she will go through customs here.

I am just not sure whether the bus is the way to go or whether we should arrange a car service. If it was easy, she would be willing to take the transfer bus.

Can anyone shed any light on the bus service or car service?:confused3

thanks for your help.

Yep, shuttle service will be the cheapest and still fairly efficent. Taxi is the fastest but fare would be much more than $13....

just to reiterate - transferring between JFK and LGA is a monumentous task. Make sure she has enough time between flights. Its 45 minutes minimun travel time between airports. One and 1/2 hr is more likely gate to gate airport to airport. Remember she has to clear customs at Kennedy and get thru security at LaGuardia plus walking to the gate which can be a long walk.

They told her she didn't have to worry about her luggage that it would continue to Orlando and she will go through customs here.

Not so sure if the above statement is true. It was my thought that since Sept 11 2001 no luggage can be on an airplane without the pax also being on the same plane but so far I cannot find the reference on TSA.GOV.

Clearing customs in Canada should help with timing! Here's a link for JFK to LGA bus service that might help - I think she can make a reservation ahead of time so that her ticket is paid for already - then she can just board. http://www.nyairportservice.com/

What airline(s) will she be on? I would doublecheck directly with the airlines regarding luggage, just in case. From your post it sounded like that info came from Airmiles. I'm not too familiar with the program but from what I understand, they book the tickets through their travel agency rather than the airlines directly. I always need to hear things from the horse's mouth - so I'd verify with the airline. I'd hate for her to go all theway LGA only to find out her luggage was sitting in baggage claim at JFK.

Good luck with everything! I'm just jealous that she's going and not me. :)

I live in NYC so I have never done that, bit if you would like the service i use it is 212-777-7777.

Call them and ask how much it is. They r always on time and very friendly.

If there r plenty of time between flights then I would say use the bus, but I would rather be safe.
