Transferring between Use Years

Hi,
I'm new to DVC and I'm trying to learn how to handle different use years at the same home resort. If I have a February UY and a June UY how can I transfer the June UY points to a Feb UY reservation? I found a resale contract with great terms at VGF (with banked points from 2021 that need to be used).

Can I borrow points from a different UY to reserve?
If I have banked points from the June 2021 UY, can I use those banked points on a Feb. 2022 UY reservation that's already made?

So confused....

You have to call MS to transfer points.

Usually, you can get a transfer in or out once per UY but MS will frequently disregard that rule when the points are being transfer by an owner to one of their other memberships.

Transferred points can be banked but they cannot be borrowed.

Banked and borrowed points cannot be transferred.

Points in one membership cannot be used to pay for a reservation made under another membership.
So the points can't be swapped after a reservation has been made? Even though I have the same home resort and there is no advantage?

So I would have to hope that one or two days would be available and make a new reservation with the 2021 points and then cancel the original?

I'm racking my brain trying to figure out how someone would do that without losing the rooms? Would they have MS on the phone and cancel one day at a time and then try and re-book it really quickly on the computer? Without triggering the waitlist/

One possible solution would be to book available nights at the beginning or end of your trip once the points from the June membership are added to your account. You could then drop those nights from your existing reservation. You can call or email or chat with MS to have a note placed on both reservations that they are a continuing stay and you will most likely not need to move.
So I would add the nights on to the end of my stay and then how would the original UY points come back to me? If I drop those then the older points stay on the contract and then the newer ones get credited back?

For argument's sake let's say that your current reservation is for 7 nights...A,B,C,D,E,F,G.

You get the points from the June membership loaded and you see that nights A,B and E are available in the same type of room you had booked with the February membership. You book nights A & B with the June membership. You don't want to book night E.

Now, you have duplicate rooms booked for nights A & B. So you modify the reservation which was booked using the February membership to remove nights A & B but you keep C,D,E,F and G. The points from the February membership which were used for nights A & B get returned to that membership. You still have 7 consecutive nights but they are from 2 different memberships.
Ok, I get it! Why wouldn't I want to book E? If the idea is to try and use as many of my expiring June 2021 points as possible?

Just to add, MS seems to now be transferring banked points for owners between memberships.

They did it for me.…so they may be able to move those banked 2021 points.…

Because E falls in the middle of the reservation. You cannot split the reservation, which was made using the February points, into two reservations of C & D plus F & G.

You could always book E with the June points and set up two wait lists - one for C&D and the other for F&G. You can also stalk the member's website to see if individual nights become available. But if the wait lists never come thru and stalking is fruitless, night E alone is of no use to you.
So I could potentially just have 3 reservations then: A&B, E, CDFG.
What happens to the original reservation if I try and cancel E? It won't let me keep CDFG? What does MS do in that case since I have the days booked?

I think I have thoroughly confused you.

You cannot just cancel night E in the middle of a reservation and expect to keep nights CDFG. That would be splitting the original reservation into 2 new reservations - a CD reservation and an FG reservation. And it cannot be done that way.
No, I get it. I'm just wondering what technically happens on the DVC side when someone does that? Will the system automatically generate two different reservations for CD and FG? Or does it cancel everything? If it was able to split the reservations without cancelling and having to try and rebook then that would be ok. Since I already have the rooms.

No. The system will NOT generate two new reservations for you! You cannot split a reservation.

If you reserve nights A&B and then reserve night E using your June membership, you have two reservations- one for nights A&B and another for just night E.

Your single reservation which was made with the February reservation remains intact unless you modify it. So that reservation remains as A,B,C,D,E,F,G.

Right. I'm wondering what happens to the original contract if I try and cancel E. Does it automatically cancel CDFG too?

You cannot cancel just night E. You can modify the reservation to drop A,B,C,D,E and keep FG. Or you can modify the reservation to drop AB and EFG to keep CD.

Or you can just try what @Sandisw suggested and hope that MS will make permit you to transfer banked points to one of your other memberships.
I guess the other option is to try and rent them out if I don't think that I can use them before they expire in May of 2023 since my reservations will already be booked.

Think of modifications as being only able to shorten It from either the beginning or the end but you will always remain with just one reservation
