I'm so confused about something and hoping soemone can help.

Today I planned out our next use year's trips so I could enter the booking window dates in my palm for when to call.

Because of a special extra trip without the kids for our 10 year anniversary we went over our point total by a little. I was thinking about going over to the rent boards closer to that time and having soemone transfer points into our account.

Here's the catch -
The last trip of that use year we have planned I'm figuring points for our home at BCV during the month of April. I imagine I would need to book at the 11 month window as it is spring break, although it hits a week after Easter so it is not Premier, but Magic. I will need the extra transferred points to complete this transaction.

We would really like to try SSR for this trip, but since we would have to wait for the 7 month window I want the back up of BCV just in case.

If we can get SSR at the 7 month window I will end up with extra points left over from the transfer that I had to use to make the 11 month ressie at BCV.

To sum up -
Can I bank points that have been transferred into my account? And if not does anyone have any suggestions on how I can go about with my plans?

Can I request the tranferred points be used for another earlier trip that use year so that the BCV spring break trip are my original points?

Thanks!

You can bank transferred points subject to the normal banking rules. They will not automatically substitute the transferred points and might not even do it at all unless those nights are available for a new booking. If there are nights in your stay that are still available, you can cancel those days and rebook with the transferred points freeing up the points originally used. Just make sure the reservation in which you want to substitute occurs 31 days or more after you are making the request. Does this answer your question?

Dean, thanks. I'm still a little confused, though.

If transferred points are bankable, then I really don't need to worry about anything else, correct?

Do the tranferred points become my own banking deadlines or do they retain their original banking deadline if it is a different use year?

I have a December use year so my banking deadline woul be at late Setember. The trisp we will be taking are in December, February and in april. I shoudl be OK as long as the tranferred poinst have a use year of December through April then, corecct?

Wow...thsi stuff is confusing!

Wait, it gets worse. Do you want what the rules say or what DVC actually does?

The rules say that transferred points retain their use year and home resort. In reality DVC has no real way of tracking the use year and home resort of transferred points. This creates some interesting situations, aggravations and opportunities.

As for whether the banking window is important, depends on what happens between now and then and the use year and timing of the points. You should tell DVC and the person you pay for the transferred points that you want the points transferred to the (in this case) your 2004 December use year. Then make your reservations accordingly. There are so many variables I this situation based on the use year and start month of the points that it’s impossible to cover them all. Just make sure the points you get will cover when you need them. Get MS to give you an opinion and record the info including who you talked to. Better still, do it by email so you’ll have a record.
