Okay, call me dense but after reading these boards for a year, I have this question. If points transferred to your account (through renting) take on my use year, does that mean that they expire when my points expire? For example, if someone offers 100 points at a bargain price for transfer that are expiring in 30 days, and I buy those points for the current use year, will the life of the points be extended to an expiration date that matches my own points? Sounds too good to be true!

Transferred points are SUPPOSED to retain the Use Year and Home resort of the original owner. However, due to a glitch in DVC's computers, that doesn't always happen automatically. But I wouldn't suggest taking on points while assuming that the glitch will work in your favor. ;)

I had wondered this too, TammyAlphabet (BTW, I always appreciate your posts, mainly because the spelling and grammar are always impeccable, something not often seen in on-line communities). I have considerable experience with transfer points, having executed transfers 6 times in my time as a DVC owner (our 495 points are just never enough, for some reason).

In my experience, transfer points get dumped into the receiver's use-year and home resort, but the computer flags them as transfer points. The transfer points in your account are bankable as long as you (the receiver) are still within any of the banking windows. It seems that the computer knows deep down what the original use-year of the transfer points is, but it is very difficult for the MS CMs to dig down to get this information, so most likely they would be able to bank even expiring points, but I cannot be sure, having never attempted this. If it is allowed, it could be a work-around for those with expiring unbanked points, which could lead to a fix at some point. It very well may be too good to be true. I am not about to test it out with my money; maybe if I could do it for free, and for a few points...

Please let me know if you try this. Good luck!
