Transferred Points-Does this sound right?

So this past May, I made a reservation for April of 2021 and used points from both my contracts. Its seems the way Disney did it, was to transfer 115 points from my resale contract (Aug UY) into my other contract (Direct Feb UY) to make the reservation. Eventually we cancelled the reservation in Oct/Nov, because we didn't think the travel would be safe enough by then. The issue is that, those 115 point do not show up in either contracts point total, but only in the transaction history. So I called MS and they told me that those are transferred points from my August 2020 contract and now have to be used by July of 2021. I guess because I cancelled after my banking window closed? When I asked why they didn't show up in the overall point totals, she told me transferred point often to not show up in the totals. This is what the transaction look like in my activity statement:

This seems odd to me. Can anyone help explain this?

Well, first thing would be to redact that image so that your contract numbers aren’t visible to the whole internet.

The next thing is that transferred points retain their home resort and UY. So those points which were transferred from your August UY would have the same expiration date as always even though they had been moved to a membership with a Feb. UY. Transferred points can be banked. So, if they were August 2020 points, you have until March 31, 2021 to bank them.

transferred points with different UY than the base contract never show up so that is typical.

Many CMs are not fully familiar with transferred points rules.. I have even heard of then putting them back when it is a transfer between a member accounts (1 transfer rule per year does not apply)

Correct. Once points are transferred, they are part of the membership, but not part of an actual contract you own.

That is why you see the virtual contract there as it’s simply a place holder for the points,

When you go to use them, that virtual contract will show up as a choice to use if the trip is during an eligible time.

I am pretty sure the CM meant they need to be used by the end of July, not beginning as that is when points from an Aug 2020 UY expire,

Since you have not banked them yet, what you were told is accurate,

However, you can call back and ask them to bank them for you and that will extend them from Aug 1st, 2021 to JUly 31st, 2022

Sorry for being thick, but correct on which aspect? Why they don't show up, or why I can't bank them and have to use them prior to July 2021? Also, can I rent those point out to anyone?

They don’t show up because they are in a virtual contract which acts as a placeholder for the points. However they should show up when you book online if they are eligible (I.e. can be used for your chosen resort and dates).

You should be able to bank them because you have not missed your banking deadline for August 2020 UYs.

They’re your points. If you elect to use them to make a reservation for someone else, that’s your prerogative. So, renting is fine.

Sometime in the Sept timeframe DVC IT finally spent some time to get these to display for us and in most cases now the transfers are able to be seen online and also be used. It's just that yours was done before they implemented whatever step now allows them all to be seen - as long as the transfer is processed properly I'd guess.

I think the change came about as a result of DVC “extending” banked points that were used for reservations that occurred while resorts were closed. Those “extended” points actually showed up as Riviera Dec 2019 UY points. Allowing members to see and use them online eliminated a lot of phone calls to Members Services at a time when staffing was limited.

I also think it was because DVC was going to have a lot of "transfers" because of the point extensions and it finally gave DVC a need for owners to see them online to not cause an abundance of calls. We had a Dec UY Riviera transfer into our Oct UY. Everything worked fine to see it and use it.
 
I had 2 separate transfers into my account prior to them being available online. Both different resorts than I own and 2 different UY's than I own. They all show up online. It is so much nicer than having to call in to use them.

It will also make doing it more likely for me to move some of my SSR points as I have some in both my Aug and Dec UY.

I could see them in my total points available in my June 2021 use year but when I tried book a room using them I got an error that I didn't have enough points available and didn't have a virtual contract showing the transferred points. I had to call member services to be able to book with the transferred in points. Did I do something wrong?

I've heard there is an issue with using transferred points online in the 11 month window. Once into the 7 month window they work online. I haven't tried it myself because I had to call to make my original reservations at 11 months (before they were available online) and have only made them within 7 months since (no problem).

Not in the 11 month though, especially if different resort because the system is set up to use your own points before transferred points.

MS has some abilities we do not, so if trying to use during the home resort time, those transferred points probably need to be done via M#.

This was an 11 month reservation within my home resort. Too bad it wouldn't work. Thankfully it wasn't a time-sensitive reservation, although the CM said there were only 2 of the type of room I was reserving left so I'm glad I didn't wait until 7 months.
