Transfer timing, etc questions

Hi all, never had a transfer before, wondering if anyone can answer a few questions. Family member is looking to transfer feb 2012 use year points to us for use on a 2013 trip. A few questions:

1) how long does it take for the transfer to occur after she requests it?
2) I'd have to bank the points for use in 2013, correct?
3) is there a time lag in banking transferred points? Does that have to be done over the phone vs. online?
4). Can I make reservations online with banked, transferred points, or do I have to call in?
5). If I make part of the reservation online at 8 am to give us the best chance of getting the first few nights and then call at 9 to extend the trip with banked transferred points (if that's required), do you think they'll let me treat that as an extension vs. a new reservation I have to wait a few days to make (total will be less than 7 nights)?

Reason I'm asking all this is we've gone back and forth on dates, and now think we want to go for spring break, which means the 7 month is 8/27. We have enough of our own points to book the first few nights, but not the whole trip. Given her works schedule, family member is saying she can't call in the transfer until 8/23. I don't even know if that timing is possible for transfers...

1) Transfer is immediate.
2) Unless your trip is in January, yes.
3/4/5) Unless your UY (and maybe home resort?) is exactly the same, you never see transferred points online, so you have to do everything by phone. Keep close track of those points, since the CM's description of where they are is your only confirmation.

DVC allows point transfers but their system doesn't do a good job of tracking them and you can't see them in your account or online.

We have also had CM's have trouble applying the transfered points and a manager had to get involved.
