Transfer Question

I have 31 BCV points that I am considering renting. I'd like to transfer these to another member's account. I was looking on the rent/trade board, and probably can do this pretty easily.

My question is this: what are the transfer rules? Are we limited to a certain amount of transfer rules? If so, where in the member's guide book does it say that? I am on the phone now with MS and have been on hold a while as they are trying to find it somewhere in writing so they can give me accurate info.

Can anyone help?

there are several rules - you won't like the last one

"Transfers are subject to the following restrictions:
1)both mmebers must be current on their annual dues and monthly mortgage payments in order to give or recieve a Transfer.Both members must be closedon their contracts in order to participate in a Transfer.

2) all transferred vacation points retain the Use year of the transferring member and expire at the end of the transferring member's use year. the member who is transferring their vacation points to another member is still responsible for the annual dues payment on those transferred vacation points.

3) banks or borrowed vacation points may not be transferred.

4) transferred vacation points may not be banked, borrowed or returned to the transferring member.

5) if a transfer occurs between members from different home resorts, the transferred vacation points retain all the reservations rights of the transferring member.

6) transfer requests may be made by phone, email or fax and must be confirmed in writing to Member serives. DVCMC will not assist members in finding another party for a transfer activity.

7) members are expressly prohibited from receiving compensation for engaging iin any transfer activity."


someone of this site - says that MS only allows one transfer per member per year.

You are right about the last one; however, isn't this done all the time? MS had me on hold for a long time as they could not find the answer in writing. They called me back and said that it was not in the members guide but in the documents that were signed at closing. She said we are allowed two transfers in a use year.

the only one I heard about is you make reservations in their name - and send them a confirmation - like you would a non-member - MS does not have to get so involved.

the problem would be if for some reasons they had to cancel - the points would go back to you not them.

as far as transferring points for cash - I don't know.

That is the first time I have heard that. Seems like those on this board have been saying you are allowed unlimited transfers in or out during a year. Has anyone else heard this? What are the two transfers? Both in or out or one and the other? The confusion around transfers makes for many interesting threads.

The way it was explained by MS today was you are allowed two in your use year--if you transfer two out, you are not allowed one in. Your two were used in transferring out. I thought it was interesting that MS had a hard time finding the answer. As said before, they had to call me back once they found it in the documents.

There are two differences for the info posted by Spiceycat from 1999 to the present. First is that the OLD rules were one per use year IN or OUT but not both. then you could not bank or borrow the points once transferred. This changed later and I'm told it's now one direction but unlimited transfers per use year. You can also now bank transferred points.

i can vouch of DEAN, this month i just had 3 dvc members transferred points (different amount of points per dvc member)
to my account for my ressies, ms had no problem, i even asked at one points if there was a limit and ms said no as long you transfer points IN or OUT per use year. my ressies are made, and i didnt have any problems with the transfer in , just the the points retaining there home resort for my 11 month out ressies, but it only took ms 2 days to make my ressies manually, but had nothing to do with how many dvc members transfer to me.

chip1, spiceycat did list the old rules, so please take a look at the link in my sig below.
the official rules from July 2003 are listed in the first section.
what i posted is the newest set of rules AFAIK.

you will NOT find these rules anywhere in the Guidebook or the latest mini-Vacation Planner Guidebook.
the only place it is in writing is the Multi-Site POS. i copied the rules word for word.

please also note the second section is NOT official rules.

disneyberry, thanks for the post. Wow, this all seems so tricky. It is enough to make me second guess even considering it.
